Texas Gets Four More Wins at Longhorn Aquatics Elite Invite

Texas swimmers Madisyn Cox, Olivia Anderson, Clark Smith and Will Licon each posted victories as the Longhorns closed a successful weekend of swimming Sunday night at the Longhorn Aquatics Elite Invite. 
 
Smith collected his second win of the meet and led wire-to-wire in the 1500m freestyle, as he took the victory in 15:08.59.  The 2015 NCAA champion in the 500-yard freestyle earned his first win of the meet Friday night in the 400m freestyle. 
 
Anderson led from the outset of the 100 breaststroke championship final and claimed the win at 1:08.88.  Former Longhorn Laura Sogar followed in second at 1:10.09 while rising senior Jordan Surhoff placed seventh at 1:12.77.  Rising sophomore Brooke Hansen took eighth at 1:13.59. 
 
Licon started his busy night with a win in the 100 breast at 1:01.36.  Rising junior Austin Temple notched a fourth-place mark of 1:03.64 and rising senior Hayden Henry placed fifth at 1:03.82.  Rising sophomore Casey Melzer took eighth at 1:04.68. 
 
Cox finished off a strong weekend of racing with her convincing win in the 200 individual medley at 2:11.60.  Texas rising sophomore Nora McCullagh added a second-place mark of 2:17.93. 
 
Licon capped his evening with a second-place showing in the 200 IM at 2:00.41.  Former Longhorn Austin Surhoff took fourth at 2:03.16 while UT freshman Mason Tenney posted a U.S. Olympic Trials qualifying cut with his mark of 2:05.01. 
 
UT rising senior Tasija Karosas posed a stiff challenge to defending Olympic champion Missy Franklin in the 100 backstroke final before Franklin pulled out the win in 1:00.50.  Karosas placed second at 1:01.11 while UT rising sophomore Quinn Carrozza took fourth at 1:03.64. 
 
UT rising senior Jack Conger led the Longhorns contingent in the 200 butterfly championship final with his second-place mark of 1:57.01, just off of Pace Clark’s winning time of 1:56.97.  Texas rising sophomore Max Holter took fourth at 2:01.07 while UT rising junior Joseph Schooling placed seventh at 2:02.31.  Former Longhorn John Martens won the consolation final at 2:00.77. 
 
Former Longhorn Kaitlin Pawlowicz took third in the 200 butterfly championship final at 2:14.12.  UT rising sophomore Remedy Rule placed fifth at 2:15.70 while rising senior Maggie D’Innocenzo took seventh at 2:19.59. 
 
UT rising sophomore John Shebat added a second-place showing in the 100 backstroke final behind Olympic champion Matt Grevers in 55.12.  Former Longhorn Ian LeMaistre took seventh at 56.79.   
 
UT rising sophomore Joanna Evans posted a fourth-place showing in the 800 freestyle final at 8:45.60. 
 
Texas will send its eligible swimmers to the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials beginning June 26 in Omaha, Nebraska.
