St. Francis (Pa.) Downs Youngstown State

The Saint Francis swimming team closed out the regular season schedule with a 148-110 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday. The Red Flash finished the regular season with an 8-7 record, its fourth straight year with a winning record. SFU took first place in eight different events.

On Senior Day, the Red Flash honored Sara Dieterich (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) and Catherine Rogers (Nokesville, Va./Seton School) for their contributions to the swimming program. Both swimmers picked up at least one first place finish in their last home meet of their collegiate careers.

Rogers claimed the top spot in the 100-yard Breaststroke, with a time of 1:06.00, that ranks as the sixth-best time in program history. The Virginia native also won the 100-yard Butterfly, with a pace of 59.70. 

Dieterich finished out her Red Flash home career with a victory in the 100-yard Backstroke, with a time of 1:01.69. 

Sophomore Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) earned three wins on the day, placing first in the 200-yard Freestyle (1:53.56), 50-yard Freestyle (23.97) and 500-yard Freestyle (5:08.11). Lafferty's time in the 200-yard Freestyle ranks eighth all-time at SFU, while her 50-yard Freestyle mark ties her for sixth. Her time in the 500-yard Freestyle is 10th all-time at Saint Francis.

Fellow sophomore Emma Karell (Norrtlje, Sweden/Tby Swim Club) had a pair of Top Two finishes. She placed first in the 200-yard Breaststroke (2:27.66) and second in the 200-yard Butterfly (2:12.19).

The Red Flash claimed the Top Three spots in both the 100-yard Breaststroke and 200-yard Breaststroke. Joining Rogers in the Top Three of the 100-yard Breaststroke were sophomore Mary Kish (Glendale, Ariz./Bourgade Catholic) (1:08.89) and freshman Jessica Crumm (New Hampton, N.Y./Minisink Valley) (1:08.99). Kish (2:32.83) and Crumm (2:34.39) placed second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard Breaststroke. 

Freshman Fallon Nelson (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant) had two Top Three finishes, placing second in the 1000-yard Freestyle (11:07.47) and third in the 500-yard Freestyle (5:25.50). Junior Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary) finished third in the 1000-yard Freestyle, with a time of 11:14.20. 

Sophomore Natalie Tedjasukmana (Anaheim, Calif./Mater Dei) earned Top Three placements in the 200-yard Freestyle (2:02.14) and 100-yard Freestyle (56.38). Fellow sophomore Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) also had a Top Three finish, placing second in the 100-yard Backstroke (1:01.76).

Freshman Rory O'Dell (Chapel Hill, N.C./Northwood) placed second in the 200-yard Backstroke (2:14.18), while freshman Marisa Daly (Wallingford, Conn./Mark T. Sheehan) took third (2:17.48). O'Dell also finished third in the 200-yard Butterfly (2:15.53).

Junior Jessie Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair) finished second in the 100-yard Freestyle (55.36) and third in the 50-yard Freestyle (25.16).

The Red Flash won the 200-yard Freestyle Relay as Lafferty, Reilly, Rogers and Tiberino combined for a time of 1:38.41.

Saint Francis placed second and third in the 400-yard Medley Relay. Karell, Reilly, Rogers and Tiberino teamed up for a time of 4:02.37 to finish second. Crumm, Daly, Kish and Tedjasukmana placed third, with a pace of 4:05.80.

The Red Flash will finish out the season at the NEC Championships on Feb. 24-27 in Cambridge, Mass.
