Frostburg State sophomore Zach Shattuck broke five Class S6 Paralympic American swimming records against Marymout (Va.), Saturday afternoon.
Shattuck broke the 800-meter freestyle, 100-meter butterfly, 100-meter backstroke, 50-meter butterfly and the 100-meter Individual Medley records.
He started off his record-breaking meet with the 800-meter freestyle where he touched in at 13:07.16; breaking the previous record of 17:51.35, set in 1999.
Shattuck went on the break the 100-meter butterfly in 1:29.94 the 100-meter backstroke record in 1:35.38.
In the 50-meter butterfly, Shattuck broke a 22-year old record, set in 1994, to set the new American Record in 38.44.
He ended the day with an American Record in the 100-meter IM, touching in at 1:30.54, beating the old record of 1:55.53 by more than 20 seconds.
"Zach has been incredibly focused and has shown an incredible work ethic this season," remarked head coach Justin Anderson. "His record setting performances today are a direct reflection of his dedication. The whole team is so proud of him and excited to be a part of his quest to making the Rio Paralympic Games!"
This season, Shattuck has broken a total of 23 Paralympic American records, both in meters and yards.
The Frostburg State swim teams will resume competition at the Capital Athletic Conference Championships February 19-21 at St. Mary's (Md.). Competition is set to begin at 10:00 am.
