Frostburg State Swept by Marymount

The Frostburg State men's and women's swim teams took a combined 12 first-place finishes in their loss to conference rival Marymount (Va.),Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcat women led for most of the meet but dropped a 147-114 decision to Marymount, while the men fell, 158-98.

The FSU women started off strong, touching four seconds ahead of the competition to take first in the 200-meter freestyle. The relay team of freshman Emily Turner, freshman Maddie Weinberger, senior Chrissy Alessandrini and sophomore Macey Nitchie touched in at 2:11.58 to win the event.

Nitchie swept all of the sprint freestyle events, touching in first in the 200-meter free (2:17.20), the 50-meter free (28.88) and the 100-meter free (1:03.20).
In the distance free events, Alessandrini touched in at 11:24.41, good for second place in the 800-meter freestyle, while junior Sydney Fazenbaker won the 400-meter freestyle in 5:13.41.

Weinberger took both the 50 and 100 meter breaststroke events, finishing well ahead of the competition. She touched in at 35.27 in the 50 and 1:17.75 in the 100-meter distance. She ended the day with another victory in the 100-meter IM, touching in at 1:11.87.

Turner ended the day with three runner-up finishes in the 50-meter backstroke (34.45), the 100-meter backstroke (1:14.04) and the 50-meter butterfly (33.31).

On the men's side, sophomore Daniel Ryczek swept all the distance free events, touching first in the 800-meter freestyle (10:07.37) and the 400-meter freestyle (4:46.44).

Sophomore Christian March posted three individual wins for the Bobcats. He swept the breaststroke events, taking first in both the 50 (30.84) and 100-meter distances (1:07.45). March ended the day with a first place finish in the 100-meter IM, touching in at 1:02.63.

In the backstroke events, sophomore Deionn Yarberough finished second in the 50-meter backstroke (30.19).

The Bobcat men's and women's swim teams will take a short break from competition to prepare for the Capital Athletic Conference Championships over the February 19-21stweekend.  The competition will be held in St. Mary's, Md. and is set to begin at 10:00 am.
