Arcadia Sweeps Kings, Swept by Messiah

Arcadia Men

The Arcadia University men's swimming team returned to competition Thursday night in a MAC double dual with King's and Messiah. The Knights took down King's 166-82, however fell 138-122 to the host Falcons. Arcadia moves to 6-2 on the season. Arcadia recorded 17 top-three finishes, including a pair of 1-2 finishes.

The Knights opened the meet with a second place finish in the 200 medley as Eric Lam, Andrew Givone, Timothy Graham and Jake Schellinger combined for a 1:43.20 finish.

The Scarlet and Grey picked up its first individual win in the 1000 yard freestyle when Grant Fisher finished the 40 lap race in 10:32.86. The win wouldn't be the only one for Fisher as a claimed the top spot in the night's other distance event, the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:05.53. He would also claim the runner-up position in the 200 freestyle with a time of 51.50, before finishing his night as part of the second-place 200 yard freestyle team.

Michael Melissen also claimed a top finish in the freestyle as he touched the wall in the 200 yard rendition at 1:52.41. He, along with Fisher, A.J. Cawley and Timothy Graham claimed second in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a 1:33.36 finish.

Moving to the stroke events, Arcadia posted a pair of 1-2 finishes with the first coming in the 200 yard breaststroke and the second in the 100 yard butterfly. Andrew Givone claimed the top spot in the 200 yard breaststroke with a 2:19.33 finish, edging Lam (2:20.59) by less than a second; the pair defeated by rest of the field by just over eight seconds. Graham and Schellinger combined for the other 1-2 finish as Graham touched the wall in 55.02 and Schellinger in 56.22 in the 100 yard butterfly. With a time of 1:03.63, Givone claimed first place in the 200 yard butterfly.

The Knights recorded four other second place finishes on the night including a 57.21 finish in the 100 yard backstroke from Lam, a 2:02.78 performance from Graham in the 200 butterfly, a 23.41 finish from Schellinger in the 50 yard freestyle and a 2:05.50 finish from Lam in the 200 IM. Givone completed the individual medley in 2:08.29, good for third place.

Arcadia returns to Lenox Pool on Saturday to host Albright in a MAC meet.


Arcadia Women

The Arcadia University women's swimming team return to the poll Thursday night splitting a MAC double dual meet with King's and Messiah at Messiah. The Knights took down King's 167-88, while falling to the Falcons 200-61. 

Alyssa D'Esposito shined for the Knights as she claimed the team's lone first place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:26.76. She later went on to claim second in the 500 yard freestyle finishing at 5:41.54. 

Katelyn Wojnar supported the Knights efforts in the 1000 yard freestyle finishing behind D'Esposito at 11:46.09. A 26.58 finish in the 50 yard freestyle gave Taylor Byers a second place finish to go along with a third place finish in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:06.34. Rounding out the individual freestyle events, Lillie Curtis claimed third in the 100 yard race at 59.09.

Megan Obarowski and Byers claimed top three finishes in stroke events with the former claiming third in 200 yard butterfly at 2:25.54 while the latter finished second in the 200 yard breaststroke at 2:41.52.

Arcadia claimed third in both relays, first a 2:01.73 finish in the 200 yard medley relay to open the night, then a 1:51.63 finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay to close out the meet.

The Knights return to Lenox Pool on Saturday to host Lycoming in MAC action.
