Texas Dominating Big 12's

Just a day after contributing to a new Big 12 record in the women’s 400 medley relay, Texas’ Tasija Karosas toppled the conference’s 100 backstroke record by the time of 51.40. Karosas’ performance helped the Longhorns maintain the team lead on both the men’s and women’s side after day three of the Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championship.

Through the conclusion of Friday’s competition, UT racked a total 712 and 707 team points on the men’s and women’s side respectively. The Mountaineer men sit in second with 566 points and TCU sits in third with 494 points. On the women’s side, the Jayhawks finds themselves in second with 434.5 points, while Iowa State is third with 386.5 points and West Virginia fourth with 361 points. TCU rounds out the standings with 278 points.

In the first event of the evening, Texas senior Meghan Houston took the three meter diving title with a score of 345.60. Iowa State’s Elyse Brouillette (322.25) and Texas’ Kristina Hoffman (315.80) rounded out the top three on the board.

In both the men’s and women’s 400 individual medley, Big 12 Championship meet records were shattered. Lonhorn Madisyn Cox earned the top spot with a 4:04.67, a full half second faster than the previous record, while UT’s Jonathan Roberts tallied the gold with a time of 3:41.54. The Longhorns then swept the 100 butterfly as Mimi Schneider (52.65) and Joseph Schooling (44.62) took first. Schooling’s time also registered as a new meet record.

During the home stretch of the meet, UT’s Quinn Carrozza (1:44.99) and Townley Haas (1:33.19) topped the 200 freestyle charts, followed by Texas’ Olivia Anderson (1:00.06) and TCU’s Ford Story (53.24) in the 100 breaststroke. Story’s win marked the first event victory outside of Texas in the meet. West Virginia’s Andrew Marsh totaled the 100 backstroke in 45.41 to take the top of the podium.

In the 200 freestyle relay, the final event of the evening, the Longhorns earned the top position in both the men’s and women’s races. Mimi Schneider, Rebecca Millard, Brooke Hansen and Remedy Rule posted a 1:28.69, while Joseph Schooling, John Murray, Tate Jackson and Brett Ringgold recorded a 1:17.10.

The championship wraps up on Sunday, with preliminary round starting at 10:00 a.m. CT and finals starting at 6:00 p.m. CT.
