Lindenwood Men, Cal Baptist Women Hold Tenuous RMAC Leads

California Baptist continues to lead the women's side of the RMAC Swimming and Diving Championships, and Lindenwood keeps hold of its advantage on the men's side as the third day of action at the El Pomar Natatorium wrapped up Friday.

For the women, CBU has totaled 765 total points through three days. Still within striking distance is Lindenwood, which finished the third day with 728.5 points. Sitting in third is Colorado Mesa with 481.5 points, while Western State (319) and Colorado Mines (281) round out the top five.

The top three spots for the men are tightly contested through three days, with just 19 points separating first-place LIndenwood, which has 662 points, from third place. CBU sits in second, just 15 points behind with 647, while Colorado is third with 643 points. Colorado Mines (320) is in fourth, while Adams State (120) sits in fifth.

Friday night opened with the women's 500 free, which was won by Lindenwood's Alecia McGillivray. She set an RMAC record with a time of 4:56.13. CBU's Christie Halverson finished second. Her time of 4:56.74 also broke the previous RMAC record. Lindenwood's Kyleigh Troxel finished third (5:03.91).

The men's 500 free was won by Colorado Mesa's Sam Bryant, the third RMAC individual title he's collected this week. Bryant won with a time of 4:29.09. CBU's Robert Griffith (4:31.00) and Lindenwood's Sylwester Borowicz Skoneczny (4:35.54) finished second and third, respectively.

Colorado Mesa's Mary Saiz won the women's 100 backstroke, posting a time of 55.94 seconds, good for an NCAA "B" cut. Colorado Mines' Claire Collier finished second with a time of 57.24, while CBU's Andrea Laliena finished third (57.34).

Colorado Mesa won its third consecutive event when Justin Hastings won the men's 100 backstroke, breaking the RMAC record with a time of 47.88 seconds. He was followed by Lindenwood's Krzysztof (47.95) and Colorado Mines' Justin Dearden (50.78).

CBU's Alena Rumiantceva won the women's 100 breaststroke, posting an RMAC-record time of 1:02.95. In fact, the top three finishers all broke the previous RMAC record. Lindenwood's Ewa Dymarek finished second with a time of 1:03.15, while CBU's Robin Smallwood finished third (1:03.92).

The men's 100 breaststroke was won by Lindenwood's Mateusz Pacholczk, who posted an NCAA "B" cut time of 54.44 seconds. He was followed by Colorado Mesa's Josh Bedford (55.90) and Lindenwood's Joey Martin (56.58).

Lindenwood's Hannah Vinyard won the women's 200 butterfly, notching a time of 2:02.93, a pool record. CBU's Courtney Chacon finished second with a time of 2:03.77, while Colorado Mesa's Eryn Leonard finished third (2:03.99).

The men's 200 butterfly was won by CBU's Joshua Hanson, who set a pool record with a time of 1:48.93. Hanson's teammate Jean Monteagudo finished second with a time of 1:49.00, while another teammate, Chris Sands, finished third (1:50.42).

CBU's Breanne Schlenger won her second RMAC diving title of the Championships, winning the women's 1-meter dive with a total score of 427.95. Schlenger's teammate Lauren Skinner finished second with 414.70 points, while Lindenwood's Carleen Wayne finished third (414.10).

CBU wrapped up the night by winning both the men's and women's 800 free relays.

On the women's side, CBU posted a pool-record time of 7:33.94, besting Lindenwood, which finished second with a time of 7:36.87. Colorado Mesa finished second with a time of 7:38.90.

For the men the Lancers set an RMAC record, posting a time of 6:36.39. Colorado Mesa's time of 6:37.69 would have broken the pool record, while Adams State finished third with a time of 7:25.72.

The RMAC Swimming and Diving Championships wrap up on Saturday with the final 11 events. All prelims and finals can be seen on RMACSPORTS.TV.
