Lindenwood, Cal Baptist Grab Opening Leads at RMAC Meet

California Baptist leads the women's side, while Lindenwood leads the men after the first day of the 2016 RMAC Swimming and Diving Championships wrapped on Wednesday at El Pomar Natatorium on the campus of Colorado Mesa University.

California Baptist leads the way for the women with 236 points. Lindenwood is right behind the Lancers in second with 232 points. Colorado Mesa sits in third with 147 points, while Western State (105 points) and Colorado Mines (81 points) wrap up the top five.

For the men, Lindenwood came away from the first day with 221 points. Colorado Mesa sits in second with 162. CBU currently ranks third (159 points), while Colorado Mines (102 points) and Adams State (1 point) round out the standings.

There were nine events completed in the opening night. CBU notched four RMAC Champions to lead the way. Lindenwood had three, while Colorado Mesa and Western State both had one.

The finals kicked off with the 1000 free. Lindenwood's Alecia McGillivray won the women's event, finishing with an RMAC-record time of 10:08.67. McGillivray's teammate Kyleigh Troxel claimed second with a time of 10:10.50, while CBU's Christie Halverson took third with a time of 10:13.57.

Colorado Mesa's Sam Bryant won the men's 1000 free with a time of 9:18.46, good for a pool record. CBU's Robert Griffith finished right behind Bryant with a time of 9:20.53, while Lindenwood's Sylwester Borowicz Skoneczny finished third in 9:25.75.

Next up was the women's 200 IM, which was won by CBU's Alena Rumiantceva. She won the race with a time of 2:06.37, narrowly edging Lindenwood's Erin Sutton, who finished in 2:06.86. CBU's Kylie Mihld finished third with a time of 2:07.36.

CBU's Joshua Hanson won the men's 200 IM, setting a pool record with a time of 1:47.27. Lindenwood's Felix Eigel (1:49.88) and Colorado Mesa's Josh Beford (1:51.14) both finished in the top three.

Western State's Randi Yarnell became the Mountaineer's first RMAC Champion since the program was reinstated during the 2012-13 season. She won the women's 50 free after turning in a time of 23.54. Colorado Mesa's Mary Saiz finished a close second with a time of 23.71, while CBU's Patricia Hapsari finished third in 23.79 seconds.

Lindenwood's Serghei Golban won the men's 50 free, finishing in 19.67 seconds. Colorado Mesa's Justin Hastings (20.45) finished second, while teammate Sky Hirsch (20.46) finished third.

CBU's Breanne Schlenger won the women's 3-meter dive, racking up 417.20 points as a final score. Lindenwood's Carleen Wayne (397.40 points) finished second, while CBU's Lauren Skinner (391.35 points) finished third.

CBU won the women's 200 medley relay, notching a time of 1:43.07. Colorado Mesa finished second with a time of 1:44.86, while Colorado Mines finished third in 1:45.81.

The final event of the night was the men's 200 medley relay, which was won by Lindenwood with a time of 1:26.80, good enough for a pool record. Colorado Mesa finished second with a time of 1:28.13, while CBU finished third in 1:31.58.
