Franklin & Marshall Swept by Gettysburg

Franklin & Marshall Men

Franklin & Marshall's men's swimming team returned to the pool on Saturday afternoon for its second meet of the weekend, falling to Gettysburg 182-79. With the loss the Diplomats fell to 3-5, 2-4 CC, while the win took the Bullets to 5-3, 3-3 CC. 

Ryan Caffrey put together a strong day for F&M, winning one individual event and taking second in another. His victory came in the 200-yard IM, clocking a time of 2:00.68 to beat out fellow Diplomat Eric Lang in second at 2:01.78. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Caffrey recorded a time of 1:00.53 to finish as runner-up.

Also reaching the podium twice was Richard Perry, who started his day by winning the 200-yard butterfly in 2:02.30. The sophomore added a third-place finish later on after finishing the 100-yard butterfly in 54.04.

F&M took the second and third spots in the 1000-yard freestyle, led by Patrick Greaney whose time of 10:13.11 was good for second, just .05 seconds behind Gettysburg's Ernie Ribera. Jordan Alter took third in the event, coming in at 10:35.82.

Timothy Gould led the Diplomats in the 200-yard backstroke, taking second with a time of 2:00.80 while Jack Currie finished third at 2:04.71.

Gould, Lang, David Burton, and Daniel Sanders all contributed third-place finishes on the day for F&M.

The Diplomats return to the pool for the final meet of the regular season on Saturday as they host the McGinness Invitational. That meet is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m.


Franklin & Marshall Women

Five individual victories were not enough as Franklin & Marshall fell to Gettysburg 160-102 on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) women's swimming action. The Diplomats fell to 5-3-1, 5-2 CC with the loss while the Bullets improved to 8-1, 6-1 CC.

Becca Meyers had another strong day for F&M, winning three individual freestyle events. The junior began her day in the 1000-yard freestyle, recording a time of 10:44.22 to take first place ahead of Breann Cavanagh in second at 11:03.31. Meyers was right back in the pool moments later for the next scheduled event, the 200-yard freestyle, which she won in 1:57.68. She then finished off her day in the 500-yard freestyle, posting a time of 5:11.95 to win while teammate Grace Pereles took second with a time of 5:21.90.

Kellen McDonald was the next Diplomat to claim individual victory, winning the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:16.33. Pereles again finished as runner-up, touching the wall just .02 after McDonald to take second at 2:16.35.

Anna Hess contributed a pair of strong performances as well, most notably in the 200-yard backstroke in which her time of 2:13.78 was good for first place. The freshman also took second in the 100-yard backstroke, recording a time of 1:01.65.

Jillian Albus added a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.44 before taking third in the 100-yard freestyle at 55.64.

Courtney Collins turned in a time of 1:03.36 to take third in the 100-yard backstroke, while Melissa Mullin recorded a pair of bronze finishes in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.08) and the 200-yard IM (2:16.50).

F&M returns to action on Saturday, hosting the McGinness Invitational at 11:00 a.m. for the final meet of the regular season.
