Bryant Women Fall to Rhode Island

The Bryant University women's swimming and diving team was defeated, 180-119, by the University of Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon in Kingston.

Saturday's meet against the Rams marked the Bulldogs' final tune-up for the Northeast Conference Championships that are set to take place from Feb. 24-27 at MIT in Cambridge, Mass.

Jamie Schaefer (Durham, N.C.) had a strong afternoon for the Black and Gold, winning the 200 fly and finishing second in both the 100 fly and the 200 IM. Mackenzie Kirk (San Jose, Calif.) and Erin Daly (Reading, Mass.) also added first-place finishes in the pool. Kirk won the 1000 free with a time of 10:54.70, while Daly won the 500 free with a time of 5:11.60.

Kelci Abernethy (Chandler, Ariz.) performed well on the board, winning the 1 meter dive and finishing second in the 3 meter dive. She scored 238.50 points to win the 1 meter and posted 238.10 in the 3 meter dive. Ann Burdick (Glenmont, N.Y.) finished second in the 1 meter, while Carissa Stemen (Naples, Fla.) and Stephanie Jennings (Elmont, N.Y.) finished 5-6 in the event.
