Assumption Women, Southern Connecticut Men Take Early Leads at NE-10 Conference Meet

Championship records were set in both the men's and women's 800 Yard Freestyle Relays during the first night of the 2016 Northeast-10 Conference Swimming & Diving Championships.

Pre-championship favorites Assumption (women) and Southern Connecticut (men) both lead following the first night of action. To see the full standings, see below.

The Bentley women's relay team of junior Kaitlin McGahie, sophomore Emily Niemiec and freshmen Kate Kaduboski and Brooke Jameson covered the 800 free relay in a new championship-best time of 7:40.02.

They finished first by 1.79 seconds over Southern Connecticut who finished second in the final, and the time is also an NCAA B cut. 

The Southern Connecticut men's team finished first in the 800 yard freestyle relay on its way to finishing in first place on Day 1 of the NE-10 Championships. The relay team was made up of Tyler Vander Vos, Louis Geist, Christopher Curtin and Dylan Swanepoel and it finished with a time of 6:48.05.

Day two of the four-day event will commence tomorrow morning.
