UVA's Smith Leads National Swimming Honors

Just a week after 13,000+ college swimmers were in action, just one-tenth of that number competed this weekend. Despite the light week, there were several big performances, including some at the FINA World Short Course Championships held in Windsor, Ontario.

For Leah Smith, the Championships were golden. The Virginia senior captured the 400 and 800m freestyles earning not just a pair of gold medals, but also this week's National College Swimmer-of-the-Week. Other performers at last week's worlds earned National Honors including Mankato's Cheyenne Rova (Division II Women) and Drew's Malavika Vishwanath (Division III Women). Madison Ewald also earned the NJCAA award for her performances south of the border.

On the men's side, winners included Princeton's Ben Schafer, West Chester's Victor Polyakov, WPI's Tim Petri and Lincoln College's Logan McDanel.
