Kenyon Press Release

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College women’s swimming and diving team finished off the three-day Total Performance Sports Camps Invitational with 1,865 points and a runner-up finish to NCAA Division I University of Pennsylvania, which closed out the meet with 2,665 points. It was the eighth-straight time the teams finished one-two in the 11-year-old meet.

The rest of the standings had Johns Hopkins University in third place (1,215), Carnegie Mellon University in fourth place (1081.5), Davidson College in fifth (1049.5) and DePauw University, which only entered divers, in sixth place (28).

For the second straight night, junior Julia Wilson posted Kenyon’s top individual placement. She won the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:16.27, which was a season-best and the fastest time in NCAA Division III this season. In the same event, senior Ellie Crawford claimed seventh place with a time of 2:20.74.

In the next event, the 100-yard freestyle, sophomore Hannah Orbach-Mandel nearly rang up the Ladies’ second victory. She hit the wall in 50.66 and was narrowly edged by Penn’s Eli Lankiewicz, who clocked in at 49.95. Orbach-Mandel’s time cleared her previous season best of 51.05 and, like Wilson’s time in the 200 breast, made the NCAA’s ‘B’ cut. Abby Wilson, another Kenyon sophomore, placed fourth in the event with a time of 51.09 and freshman Zoe Toscos added a seventh-place finish in 52.02. Both those times made the NCAA ‘B’ cut, too.

Earlier in the meet, sophomore Marysol Arce and freshman Kendall Vanderhoof placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the session-opening 500-yard freestyle. They clocked in with season-best and NCAA ‘B’ cut times of 4:55.44 and 4:59.21.

One event after that, sophomore Delaney Ambrosen posted a 2:02.00 for a third-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke. Right behind her were classmate Caitlin Foley in fourth place (2:02.49) and freshman Summer Otazu in fifth place (2:03.34). All three of those times were season-bests and NCAA ‘B’ cuts, as well.

In diving action, Kenyon sophomore Madeline Carlson was awarded 400.40 points and finished in second place in the three-meter competition.

The meet wrapped up with Kenyon’s 400-yard freestyle relay team taking second place in a time of 3:25.05. That group, which delivered NCAA Division III’s second fastest time this season, included Abby Wilson, Toscos, Princess Vilan Ferguson-Nguyen and Orbach-Mandel.

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon Lords swimming and diving team had top-three placements in four different events on Saturday night as they concluded their annual Total Performance Sports Camp Invitational at the James A. Steen Aquatics Center.

Kenyon finished the weekend in second place out of six teams with 1,786 points.

Arthur Conover continued his solid weekend right from the get-go on Saturday during the 500 freestyle event. He touched the wall with a winning time of 4:22.70 which was also good for NCAA ‘B’ cut standards.

In the next event, freshman Mick Bartholomew had a runner-up and ‘B’ cut finish in the 200 backstroke as he clocked in at 1:47.24. Liam Moran and Oscar Anderson also had ‘B’ cut qualifying times in the same event as they came in fifth and sixth place, respectively.

A trio of Lords – Weston Carpenter, Austin Pu and Ambert Sawaya – delivered a few events later in the 100 free. Carpenter came in third in 45.22 while Pu and Sawaya followed in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Kenyon’s fourth top-three finish came to senior Trevor Manz in the 200 individual medley. He touched the wall in 1:50.07 which put him in third. Third-year swimmer Matt Leenhouts was right behind him at 1:50.31.

Rounding out the Lords’ best individual performances included ‘B’ cut finishes from Tommy Weiss and Jon Zimdars in the 100 butterfly and Ian Reardon’s ‘B’ cut time of 1:59.27 in the 200 breaststroke.

The only relay of the night was the 400 freestyle. Kenyon’s ‘A’ team of AJ Reid, Carpenter, Sawaya and Pu came in fourth 3:01.72. Additionally, the squad’s ‘B’ team of Robert Williams, Conover, Weiss and Leenhouts also produced a ‘B’ cut finish.

In diving competition, Derek Hoare and Ryder Sammons finished in third and fourth, respectively, during the 1-meter event.
