LSU Press Release

NEW ORLEANS, La.- Colleen O’Neil, Leah Troskot, Lizzie Cui and Haylee Knight won two individual events apiece, as the LSU women’s swimming and diving team defeated Tulane, 161-79, at the Reily Natatorium on Saturday. With the win, the squad improves to 3-1 on the year.

“For where we are in training and in the semester, it was nice to walk away with a team win,” said head swimming coach Dave Geyer. “We certainly weren’t our best today and took a smaller squad due to some illness, but they pulled together and got their hands on the wall first when it was needed.”

In the 400 medley relay, Kate Zimmer, Colleen O’Neil, Summer Spradley and Kara Kopcso tallied a first-place finish at 3:46.43. The team of Makenna Wilson, Olivia Paskulin, Gabrielle Pick and Haylee Knight followed in second with a time of 3:48.99.

In the 1000 free, Jane Macdougall placed second, finishing at 10:25.75.

Leah Troskot touched the wall first in the 200 free, clocking in at 1:51.95. Knight also posted a time of 23.61 in the 50 free to secure first place.

In the 200 IM, O’Neil and Nicole Rozier finished first and second in order, coming in at 2:04.44 and 2:08.66 respectively.

Knight won her second individual event of the day in the 100 fly, timing out at 56.13. Pick came right behind in second, completing the event at 56.48.

Troskot, Kopcso and Spradley finished 1-2-3 in the 100 free, as Troskot garnered a time of 51.15 for her second individual victory. Kopcso touched the wall at 51.99, while Spradley followed at 52.47.

Zimmer took first place in the 100 back, securing a finish of 56.89, and Lauren Thompson grabbed second overall in the 500 free at 5:03.73.

In the 100 breaststroke, O’Neil added another first-place finish with a time of 1:02.68. Spradley rounded out the event, taking second at 1:05.36.

Taylor Anderson, Kopcso, Troskot and Paskulin wrapped up the meet after tallying another first-place finish in the relays, posting a time of 1:37.20 in the 200 free.

On the diving side, Lizzie Cui took first on both three-meter and one-meter, scoring a 339.45 and 312.22 in the respective events. Cui’s score of 312.22 is a personal best on one-meter, improving to seventh on the all-time list.

Rileigh Knox turned in a strong performance, taking second overall in both of her events. Knox tallied a score of 307.73 on three-meter and followed with a 275.93 on one-meter, notching personal bests in both events.

Katie Lagarde also earned an NCAA qualifying score on one-meter, scoring a 269.93 for third overall in the event.

“We performed well under challenging conditions,” said head diving coach Doug Shaffer. “We basically got off the bus and warmed up a little, and then dove two quick diving events. It wasn’t typical or ideal, but it was definitely a challenge.”

“Lizzie swept the events with a career high on one-meter. Rileigh recorded personal bests in the one and three-meters, and Katie notched the NCAA score on one-meter. It was a good day with good progress.”
