OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University’s swimming and diving program kicked off the 23rd annual Miami Invitational today in the Corwin Nixon Aquatic Center on Thursday.

The Red & White women will enter day two in first place after tallying 343 points. The men are in fifth, with 142.5 points.

Ella Moynihan kicked off the meet with a splash, setting a meet record twice. She took first in the 500-yard freestyle prelims, clocking in at 4:49.85. This broke the old meet record, set in 2010 by Vanessa Balogh from Oakland (4:50.30). Later in the day, Moynihan broke the record again, and won the event in 4:49.11.

Elise Campbell won the 200-yard IM for the women, finishing in 2:02.40. Stephanie LeMire took bronze in the event, coming in with a time of 2:02.92.

Abby Stone placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle (23.47), scoring 15 points for the Red & White.

The women ended the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Brittany Dudzinski, LeMire, Morgan Quesnel and Logan Klinsky earned 42 points for the RedHawks with a time of 3:43.32.

For the men, the team of Lucas Brock, Nick Ward, Ross Westrick and Jack Strauss teamed up to take fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:22.81).

Topping some of the individual performances, Justin Andrews placed fifth in the 200-yarm IM, clocking in at 1:51.35 and earning the RedHawk men 16 points. Nicholas Wukovits finished 11th in the event with a time of 1:52.04.

Brock swam a time of 21.03 in the 50-yard freestyle, tying Washington University St. Louis’s Justin Morrell for eighth place.

The team will be back tomorrow for day two. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.

OXFORD, Ohio– The Indiana University men’s and women’s swimming teams got off to a nice start at the Miami (OH) Invitational in Oxford, Ohio on Thursday.
 
In the men’s 500 freestyle, the Hoosiers had five of the top-11 finishers in the event, led by Ethan Curl who placed second overall with a time of 4:26.24. Brian Valedon was third in a time of 4:26.38, while Joey Snodderly was fifth in 4:29.57. Rounding out IU in the A Final was Christopher Woods in ninth place with a mark of 4:34.16. In the B Final, Matthew Kint was second to place 11th overall with a time of 4:34.15.
 
For the IU women, Hannah Sakaluk took fifth overall with a time of 4:54.47. In the women’s 50 freestyle, Shelby Koontz won the B Final with a personal-best time of 23.09 that ranks her as the 14th-fastest performer in the event in IU history.
 
For the Hoosier men in the 200 IM, Jackson Etter was 12th overall with a time of 1:52.31, while Nolan Plant was 14th overall with a mark of 1:52.90. On the women’s side, Hope Hayward was 16th with a time of 2:05.67, while Lydia Welty took 27th place with a mark of 2:10.70.
 
In the men’s 400 medley relay, the IU team of Wyeth Brock, Sam Apa, Kyle Morris and Nicholas Carlson took second with a time of 3:18.04. The Hoosier relay team of Drew Keenan, Steve Husch, Nikola Andjelic and Curl took ninth with a mark of 3:24.49.
 
For the IU women in the 400 medley relay, the team of Katie Keller, Hayward, Koontz and Sakaluk placed seventh with a time of 3:47.96.
 
In the men’s 200 freestyle relay, the IU team of Kyle Morris, Apa, Plant and Carlson took eighth place with a mark of 1:24.91.
 
The Indiana University men's and women's swimming and diving teams will continue at the AT&T USA Swimming Winter Nationals and at the Miami (OH) Invitational on Friday.

OXFORD, Ohio – The Milwaukee swimming & diving teams kicked off the first night of the Miami Invitational with a bang, breaking a school record in the very first event to headline a solid first day of action from the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.

The Panthers finished day one sitting fourth overall on the women's side with 160 points, with host Miami University (Ohio) leading the way with 343 points. The Milwaukee men sit in seventh place after the first few events with 97 points, with D-III powerhouse Denison sitting in first at 295.5.

Milwaukee started things off in the 200 free relay with a school record in the very first event of the night. Sara Bentley, Shelby Rozeboom, Arica Smith and Mandie Siehs teamed up for an incredible time of 1:32.40 – taking down the previous record of 1:32.45 set back in 2013. Not only was that time a new school record, it also placed the Panthers second overall and just fractions of a second shy of the win in their first time competing at this meet.

The UWM men also did well in the event, with Anthony Kolbus, Evan Kuker, Sam Salganik and Nick Menninga combining for a time of 1:23.13 for seventh overall.

Milwaukee's sprinters continued to shine in their individual 50 free later on in the night. An outstanding four Panther women swam in the evening final, with two placing in the top-four overall. Rozeboom led the way with a third-place finish in 23.22, with Siehs right behind in 23.25 for fourth. Smith came in 15th in 23.95, with Emma Helgeson taking 26th in 24.02.

Meanwhile, N. Menninga shined brightly once again. In his third time swimming the 50 free on the day, the senior won the B-final with a season-best time of 20.81 – the fifth-fastest time overall in the evening session.

UWM nearly took down another record in the 200 IM. Ryan Scripp clocked in at 1:52.37 – just shy of Nathan Rahe's freshman record set back in 2009. Scripp's time placed him 13th overall, just ahead of Kolbus (1:53.52/16th) and Patrick Kelley (1:54.63/23rd).

Meanwhile, Bentley once again gave the Milwaukee women a top finisher against some of the best in the region. The junior came in sixth overall in 2:04.10 after posted a PR time of 2:03.21 in the morning prelims. Natalie O'Connell touched the wall in 2:05.22 for 13th, with Adrienne DiFoggio (2:07.65) 25th and Maggie Burns (2:09.62) 26th.

In the 500 free, Addison Skogman led the way. The sophomore won the B-final in 4:58.34 – the third-fastest time in the Horizon League this season. Danielle Kudis was not far behind at 5:01.83 for 20th overall. Andrew Kasper led the men in 4:38.76 for 21st, with Dane Van Allen 24th in 4:40.32

Milwaukee closed out the night with yet another outstanding performance, this time in the 400 medley relay. On the women's side, it was Bentley, O'Connell, Kady Ruemmele and Siehs teaming up for a third-place finish in 3:45.15 – the fastest time in the Horizon League this season. Meanwhile, the Panther men checked in at 3:24.55 for 10th.
