Weber Transfers from Houston to Liberty

Liberty Swimming & Diving Head Coach Jake Shellenberger has announced the addition of Delia Weber to the Lady Flames’ roster. Weber, who competed for Houston last season, will begin competing for Liberty starting during the current 2016-17 academic year.

“Assistant Coach Jessica Barnes and I are thrilled to welcome Delia back to Liberty,” Shellenberger said. “We recruited her initially out of high school, and enjoyed getting to know her throughout the recruiting process. She loved Liberty on her official visit, and we knew at that point LU would be a fantastic fit for her. She swam quite fast at her previous institution, and they did a fantastic job with her last year. In the end it was the unique spiritual component of Liberty combined with the elite level D1 swimming that brought her back.”

A native of Katy, Texas, Weber had a successful freshman campaign at Houston in 2015-16, breaking the Cougars’ program record at the time in both the 1000 freestyle (9:58.42) and 1,650 freestyle (16:32.75). She was named American Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week on Jan. 26, 2016. Weber placed fifth in the 500 free and fourth in the 1,650 free at the 2016 AAC Swimming & Diving Championships.

During her high school career at St. John XXIII College Preparatory, she was a two-time team MVP. She also earned four TAPPS Division II State titles, garnering first team all-state honors. Weber led her team to a state championship in 2013. She also competed for First Colony Swim Team, coached by Bill Sprague. Weber was the valedictorian of her graduating class.

“I feel very blessed to be able to continue my swimming career with the wonderful team and coaching staff at Liberty,” Weber said. “I am looking forward to growing in my spiritual life while also pursuing success in the pool and the classroom.”
