Duke's Legard Claims Two Silvers at British Summer Champs

Rising sophomore Yusuke Legard took home two silver medals over the weekend at the British Summer Championship, held at the Ponds Forde International Sports Centre in Sheffield.

Legard was second in the men’s 19 years and over 50-meter freestyle final Saturday, clocking a personal-best time of 22.61 in the final. That mark placed him fifth in the United Kingdom open rankings for this year.

In Sunday’s action, Legard claimed silver again in the men’s 18 years and over 200 freestyle, posting another best time at 1:53.14. He then rounded out the meet by helping guide Wycombe District’s 400 medley relay to a fourth-place finish in the men’s 17 years and over division. Legard anchored the relay with a 50.00 100 freestyle split as the group went 3:49.76 overall.

After representing Duke at the ACC Championships as a rookie this past season, Legard, a native of Weybridge, Surrey, tied for 14th in the 50-meter freestyle preliminaries this summer at the 2016 British Olympic Trials. His trials mark of 23.35 tied him for seventh among the 17-20 year-old age group.
