Eastern Illinois Adds Six

After adding two new members during the early signing period this past November, the Eastern Illinois women’s swimming program announced the addition of five new members to the 2016-17 team. Kailey Adcock, Gloria Gonzales, Rachel Manderscheid, Julia Martin, and Jaelyn Williams increase the number of incoming swimmers for Head Coach Jacqueline Michalski to seven for next season. The EIU men’s swimming program will welcome Colin Frazee as their newest member to their 2016-17 team.

“I am excited to welcome these six new members to our Eastern Illinois swimming programs,” said Head Coach Jacqueline Michalski. “This class is going to be very dynamic in terms of athletic ability and personality. They all share a passion for the sport of swimming which will bring new energy to the team. We look for athletes who will continue our rich history of our academic success and this group has the capability to carry on the tradition.”

Kailey Adcock:
Adcock is a four-year varsity swimmer at Revere High School in Akron, Ohio, under the direction of Head Coach Deanne Pastva. She was a Scholar Athlete Award recipient while at Revere, and earned first place honors in the 200-IM during the sectional meet of her senior season.
“I was most attracted to how well the team bonded and how everyone was very welcoming. The campus is absolutely beautiful and it is somewhere I saw myself being for four years. I am extremely happy to call EIU my home.”

Gloria Gonzales:
Gonzales was a member of the Warren Aquatics Club and Palestine swimming programs in Greenfield, Indiana. Gonzales claimed second place honors in the 100-backstroke and fourth place honors in the 200-freestyle at the Indiana Girl’s Sectional Championships.

Rachel Manderscheid:
Manderscheid was a member of the Ankeny High School swimming program in all four years of her high school career under the direction of Greg Temple and Michelle Stout. She was a three-time academic letter winner during her career. She helped her team finish in fifth her senior year at the championship meet as well as a second place finish in the medley relay. Individually she placed sixth in the 100-breaststroke.

Julia Martin:
Martin was a member of the Hartland HS swimming team in Hartland, Michigan under the direction of Samantha Wakefield and Sarah Elgin. She placed on the all-county team three times during her career. A three time all-state honoree, Martin was named the varsity captain during the 2015 season and was the recipient of the 2015 coach’s award. She helped lead Hartland to a division and conference title during the 2012 season. Hartland always earned runner up honors for the division and conference during the 2015 season.
“I chose EIU because it had a perfect atmosphere and I could easily picture myself attending here. The campus is wonderful and the people are very welcoming.”

Jaelyn Williams:
Williams swam for Washington Community HS during her senior year for Head Coach Ashley Hilst. Williams made an impact right from the beginning in her only season with Washington HS as she was named the team’s co-captain.
The Eastern Illinois men’s swimming team added one member to their roster next season. Colin Frazee has decided to continue his swimming career with the Panthers.

Colin Frazee:
Frazee was a four-year member of the Bishop Kelly HS swimming program in Tulsa, Oklahoma under the direction of Sean Callan. Frazee holds four Bishop Kelly HS records including the 100-breaststroke, 200-medley relay, 200-freestyle relay, and the 400-freestyle relay. He was named to the Tulsa World All-Metro team three times during his career, with an All-State selection during the 2016 season. He was selected as a member of the 2015 All-Vype Magazine Swim Team. Frazee was a state qualifier all four years of his career and won back-to-back regional titles for the 100-breast in the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
“I really liked the swimmers and coaching staff when I went on my visit and the degree program I am planning on pursuing seems like a great fit for me.”
