LSU Men Sign Mexican Junior National Champion Diver

LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer announced the signing of 13-time Mexican junior national champion Juan Celaya-Hernandez Monday afternoon.

“I am thrilled to add Juan to our talented squad of male divers,” Shaffer said.  “He will make an immediate impact on our program, and he is quite possibly the highest level male diving recruit in LSU history. He has the potential to compete for championships in his first year at the conference and national levels in both springboard and platform.”

A member of the Mexican National team, Celaya-Hernandez is a two-time Pan American junior national champion on one-meter and three-meter. The incoming freshman has his sights set on qualifying for Tokyo 2020 and plans to major in civil engineering.

“I’m really excited about going to LSU and beginning my dream of going to college in the U.S. and continuing my athletic career as an LSU Tiger,” Hernandez said. “It's the most remarkable thing in my life.

Celaya-Hernandez joins an already impressive group of male divers in Andrew Suchla, Matt McClellan and Matthew Phillip. Suchla and Phillip reached the final of events at SEC Championships. McClellan also scored on all three events at the conference meet.
