Regis Sweeps Husson

The Regis College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept a dual meet from visiting Husson University on Saturday afternoon in Weston, Mass. The Pride men won 128-78, while the women picked up a 145-102 victory for their first win of the season.

On the women’s side, the 200 yard medley relay team of Molly Belles (Scranton, Pa.), Lucia Llorente Ruiz (Newton, Mass.), Ali Butcher (Natick, Mass.), and Ashlyn Deroche (North Reading, Mass.) kicked off the meet with a time of 2:01.03 and a win. Molly Belles added a win in the 50 yard backstroke with a time of 30.46, while Llorente Ruiz took home the top time in the 50 yard breaststroke at 35.92.

Ali Butcher grabbed a win in the 50 yard freestyle (26.85) with Ashlyn Deroche winning the 100 yard freestyle in 59.68. Current NEISDA Swimmer of the Week Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) posted wins in the 200 yard freestyle (2:08.34), 100 yard backstroke (1:04.00), and 50 yard butterfly (28.93).

The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Llorente Ruiz, Butcher, Bells, and Higgins rounded out the day with a win in a time of 1:49.25.

The Regis men’s team also started off fast with a win in the 200 yard medley relay as Cassidy Bastianelli (Newton, Mass.), Lawrence Reynolds (Hyde Park, Mass.), Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.) and Robert Ekberg (Northbridge, Mass.) posted a time of 1:48.93. Rainville posted the top time in the 200 yard freestyle (1:56.19) and 50 yard butterfly (24.96), while Cassidy Bastianelli added a win in the 100 yard backstroke (1:00.01).

Bryan Johnson (Sudbury, Mass.) had a strong day in the pool with wins in the 50 yard breaststroke (30.40) and 100 yard freestyle (51.62). Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.) had the top time in the 50 yard backstroke (29.34) as well as the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.72).

Freshman Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.) won the 100 yard breastroke (1:06.19), and swam the 100 yard individual medley in 1:00.09. Michael Bruno (Winthrop, Mass.) added a win in the 500 yard freestyle (5:30.47). The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Ekberg, Rainville, Unas, and Bastianelli posted a time of 1:34.92.

The Crimson and Gold hit the road next week when they travel to Bridgewater State University for a 2:00 p.m. meet with the Bears.
