Sweet Briar Topples Ferrum

Competing in their first dual meet of the year, the Sweet Briar College swim team defeated the host Ferrum College Panthers, 115-67 on Wednesday evening.

The day started with back-to-back wins for the Vixens as senior Katriana Jorgensen won the 1000 free in a time of 13:45.44. Classmate Lydia Fleck followed that up by clocking a 2:18.17 to win the 200 free.

Picking up one of her three victories on the evening, Mary McDevitt won the 200 IM for the Vixens in a time of 2:31.34. McDevitt also won the 100 Free (58.81) and the 100 breast (1:16.36).

Adding to her 200-yard freestyle victory earlier in the evening, Fleck also collected victories in the 100 butterfly and 500 free with times of 1:10.22 and 6:21.78, respectively. Jorgensen took second in the 500 free with a time of 6:43.64.

Making her Vixen debut, first-year Caroline Thomas took second in the 100 back with a time of 1:19.53.

The evening concluded with the 400 free relay and a victory for the Vixen team of Paige Chamblin, Molly Van Buren, Claire Zak, and Jorgensen. They touched in a final time of 4:44.07.

The Vixens will next be in action on Nov. 8 when they travel to Cedar Crest College for a dual meet.
