UMass Swept by Brown

After a nearly three-week break, the UMass swimming and diving teams returned to action on Saturday afternoon with both the men’s and women’s teams falling to Brown. The men were defeated 203-95, while the women lost 210-89. 

The men’s and women’s swimming squads will return to action next Friday through Sunday at the Terrier Invitational, while the diving teams head to the Tennessee Diving Invitational.

On the men’s side of Saturday’s action, UMass took first in three events as Owen Wright won the 100 freestyle (46.56 seconds), Nolan Burns won the three-meter dive (277.65 points) and Trent Kindvall won the one-meter dive (255.90 points).

In addition to his win in the 100 free, Wright also placed second in the 50 free (21.13 seconds) and second in the 200 free (1:43.30). Kindvall took third in the three-meter dive (263.85 points), while Burns placed third in the one-meter dive (245.78 points).

Also highlighting the Minutemen’s efforts were Wiktor Karpkinski who placed third in the 100 free (47.93 seconds), Oliver Wyeth’s third-place finish in the 200 back (1:54.81) and a second-place result for Heath Maginn in the 400 individual medley (4:07.50).

For the women, divers Emma Roush and Katie Polk secured the only first-place finishes of the day. Roush won the one-meter dive (252.60 points), while Polk won the three-meter dive (260.55 points). 

The divers took the top-three spots in both events as Roush placed second in the three-meter (257.48 points), Polk finished second in the one-meter (248.78 points) and Julia Jagannath took third in both – 236.92 points on the one-meter board and 251.48 points on the three-meter board. 

Cassie Sosnovich placed second in the 100 butterfly (58.14 seconds) and third in the 50 freestyle (24.38 seconds), while Steph Campo and Dasha Egkorova placed third in the 500 freestyle (5:17.21) and the 200 back (2:12.45), respectively.
