Regis Sweeps St. Joseph's (ME)

The Regis College men's and women's swimming & diving teams swept St. Joseph’s College of Maine as the Pride men earned a 110-46 victory and the Pride women defeated the Monks 135-95 on Saturday afternoon.

The men remain undefeated on the season as they have won all five matches on the season while the women have earned their second victory of the campaign.

On the men’s side, newcomer Bryan Johnson (Sudbury, Mass.) swam well as he placed first in the 50 yard breaststroke (30.43), the 100 yard freestyle (53.39), the 200 yard breaststroke (2:26.12) and the 100 yard individual medley (1:00.70). Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.) continued his strong season with first place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle (1:53.01) and the 50 yard backstroke (26.88). Cassidy Bastianelli (Newton, Mass.) won two events as well, the 50 yard freestyle (22.92) and the 50 yard butterfly (25.85). 

For the women, the 200 yard medley relay squad of Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.), Lucia Llorente Ruiz (Newton, Mass.), Ali Butcher (Natick, Mass.) and Ashlyn Deroche (North Reading, Mass.) crossed the finish line first in 2:01.36. Llorente Ruiz, Higgins and Butcher had strong days individually in the pool as they placed first in two individual events. Llorente Ruiz won the 50 yard breaststroke in 35:31 and the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:51.55. Higgins took home first place in the 200 yard backstroke (2:19.86) and the 100 yard individual medley (1:09.01) while Butcher finished the 50 yard freestyle in 26.95 and the 50 yard butterfly in 28.68.

Regis returns to action in three weeks as they take part in the GNAC Championships hosted by Simmons College on Saturday, December 5th and Sunday December 6th.
