Colgate Sweeps Niagara

Colgate continued its impressive fall season with a dual meet sweep of Niagara Saturday at Lineberry Natatorium.
 
The men’s meet came down to the wire, with the Raiders prevailing by a 122-117 margin. Dominic Wilkins and Nicholas Konovalov played a key role in the triumph, with Wilkins winning both the 500 and 1000 free individual events and Konovalov highlighting a 1-2-3 finish for the Raiders with his victory in the 100 butterfly.
 
On the women’s side, it was all Colgate from the start as the Raiders cruised to a 137-83 triumph.  Morgan Cohara and Lindsey Sagasta won two individual events each to highlight Colgate’s nine individual wins on Saturday.
 
Colgate’s men improved to 3-4 on the season and the women increased their overall record to 5-1 as the Raiders picked up their second dual meet sweep of the campaign.

The victory was also the men’s first home meet win since the 2011 season and
gives the Raiders their highest win total since the 2006-07 campaign.

Niagara’s men dipped to 1-3 while the women slipped to 2-4.
 
Konovalov highlighted a 1-2-3 finish for the Raiders in the 100 butterfly, capturing the race with a time of 54.33. Max Michael (54.51) beat out teammate Spencer Lambert (54.52) for second.

Wilkins captured both the 500 free (4:53.53) and 1000 free (10:00.73) distance races. Wilkins narrowly edged teammate Paul Kersjes (4:54.64 & 10:02.09) in both events. 

Andrew Hacker claimed the 1000 free distance race, touching the wall with a time of 1:44.88.

Des Cairns took home the 100 backstroke (51.66) while Danny Graham picked up some critical points for the Raiders with a third-place finish (55.39).

Colgate secured the victory with a win in the 200 medley relay. The Raiders’ quartet of Cairns, Kersjes, Carter Christensen and Hacker finished with a time of 1:25.21.
 
Cohara and Sagasta won multiple events for the Raiders on Saturday. Cohara placed first in the 100 free (53.10) and 200 IM (2:10.74) while Sagasta claimed the 200 free (1:55.83) and 500 free (5:12.16) competitions.

Sagasta’s victories highlighted a pair of 1-2-3 results for the Raiders. The 200 free saw Megan Gallagher place second (1:57.51) and Michelle Dols take third (1:57.52). In the 500 free, Dols claimed second (5:15.30) and Gallagher finished third (5:20.24).

It was another 1-2-3 finish for the Raiders in the 100 breast as Cammie Kirby took first (1:07.50), Jessica Cauley placed second (1:08.36) and Talia Fishbein was third (1:12.18)

Erica Silverman claimed first in the 1000 free distance race with a time of 10:42.08.

Madison Fitzgerald captured the 50 free sprint race, touching the wall with a time of 25.23.

Olivia Castro took home the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.18 to edge out Silverman (59.47).

Flora Hanson won the 100 back, turning in a time of 1:01.62.

The Raiders claimed the claimed the 200 medley relay with Hanson, Kirby, Maggie Carney and Sagasta combining for a time of 1:51.05.
 
Colgate concludes the fall portion of its schedule next weekend with an appearance in the Terrier Invitational. The three-day event, hosted by Boston University, is slated for Nov. 20-22.
