The University of Redlands swimming & diving teams competed in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action against the Caltech Beavers on Saturday morning in Pasadena. With 24 first-place showings between the teams, the Bulldog men cruised to a 197-92 victory, while the women came away with a 206-70 triumph.
The men won multiple events, as highlighted by a dual, gold-medal effort from freshman Aaron Bauer (Palos Heights, IL) and sophomore Brain Wright (Kent, WA), who tied in the 50 Free with a time of 22.53.
Earlier in the meet, Bauer also snatched a first-place outing in the 200 Free with a winning time of 1:49.95.
Furthermore, sophomore Henry Stuckenschmidt (Fresno, CA) touched the wall first in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:26.99, while junior Will Tyrrell (Portland, OR) grabbed first-place finishes in the 100 Back (54.38) and 100 Free (49.68).
In addition, freshman Zack Amendola (Palos Heights, IL) completed the 200 Back seven seconds in front of the second-place swimmer with an impressive time of 2:15.74. Finally, junior Eric Bugna (Vancouver, WA) dominated the 500 Free with a time of 4:57.81 as well.
The 400 Free Relay of sophomore Harlan Long (Oak Park, IL), Tyrrell, Bauer, and Amendola put together a time of 3:20.96 to take first place for the Bulldogs.
For the Redlands women, sophomore Clair Stuhr (Portland, OR) highlighted the performances with two first-place finishes, beginning with a time of 1:12.70 in the 100 Breast, followed by a winning time of 2:16. 63 in the 200 Individual Medley.
Junior Jessica Rivers (Renton, WA) dominated the competition in the 200 Back, earning a mark of 2:31.00, which was 22 seconds faster than the second-place swimmer.
In addition, junior Ellie Jaques (Covina, CA) won the 100 Free with a first-place time of 55.44.
Sophomore Lindsay Nichols (Arroyo Grande, CA) landed atop the podium for Redlands by earning 196.5 points in the one-meter diving competition.
Redlands heads to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday, December 5, for 10 a.m. SCIAC meet.
