Union Sweeps Columbia, King

The Union College men's and women's swimming teams ended their 2014-15 regular season in style on Saturday afternoon, as both teams swept past King (Tenn.) and the women defeated Columbia (S.C.) in a double-dual meet at the Stivers Aquatic Center.

Overall, the women bested King, 163-55 and Columbia, 168-65 while the men's team blew past King, 183-33.

In the meet the Bulldogs won 25 of the 28 events contested on the afternoon in a dominating performance.

Before the meet, the Union swim programs honored three seniors Callie Harrigan (SR/Windsor, Canada), Anna Kotliarova (SR/Kharkov, Ukraine) and Edward Malick (SR/Gilroy, Calif.).

Harrigan took the 100-free (53.53) and 500-free (5:29.88) while finishing third in the 200-fly (2:28.87), earning an NAIA "A" cut in the 100-free.

Kotliarova finished first in the 200-free (2:03.94), second in the 50-free (25.65) and third in the 100-free while earning one "A" cut time.

Malick won the 200-breast (2:14.51) and 100-breast (58.92) while finishing third in the 100-free (50.49), earning one "A" cut time.

Elsewhere for the women, Lara Kaufmann (SO/Schwerte, Germany) won three events: 1000-free (11:14.89), 200-back (2:16.97) and 100-fly (1:02.83). Jule Stein (SO/Stuttgart, Germany) finished first in the 100-breast with an "A" cut time of 1:10.65 and first in the 200-breast with an "A" cut time of 2:33.64.

Eliska Melicharova (SO/Upice, Czech Republic) finished first in the 100-back (1:03.72) while finishing second in the 200-back (2:21.74).

For the men, Cameron Donaldson (FR/Jersey, Channel Islands, U.K.) won three events with "A" cuts: 100-free (48.23), 200-free (1:44.40) and 400-IM (4:16.67). Nathan Lethbridge (FR/London, Canada) earned three "A" cuts as well: first in the 50-free (21.51), first in the 100-fly (52.31) and second in the (48.24).

Bradley Moore (SO/Melbourne, Australia) took three events in the 500-free (4:54.72), 1000-free (10:15.42) and 100-back (55.47). Dalton Baxter (SO/Woodstock, Ga. ) took the 200-fly with a time of 2:09.45. Lucas Lucena (SO/Joinville, Brazil) finished with an "A" cut time in the 200-back (2:00.53).

In relay action, the Union women finished first in the 200-medley relay with an "A" cut time of 1:57.60 and first in the 200-free relay with an "A" cut time of 1:44.60. The Union men finished first in the 200-medley relay with an "A" cut time of 1:39.68 and first in the 200-free relay with an "A" cut time of 1:31.45.

The Union College men's and women's swimming teams return to action on Thursday, beginning competition at the 2015 Appalachian Swimming Conference Championships in Christiansburg, Va. The event runs through Saturday evening.
