Fairfield Wins Three Boards at Stag Diving Invite

The Fairfield University divers had a good showing at the 2014 Stag Diving Invitational this afternoon where they competed against Trinity College and NJIT at the RecPlex Pool. Fairfield posted first place finishes in the men’s 1-meter and 3-meter events and the women’s 3-meter event.

On the women's side, junior Ashlee Steinberger posted a first place finish in the 3-meter event and was the runner up in the 1-meter. Steinberger recorded a score of 217.70 on the 1-meter and a score of 248.15 on the 3-meter. Junior Lauren Kemple posted fourth place finishes on both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Kemple scored a 201.85 on the 1-meter and a 202.00 on the 3-meter. Rookie Leah Pawelczyk posted a personal best 204.35 on the 3-meter, placing third, and a personal best score of 183.65 on the 1-meter event. Freshman Caroline Gailius recorded a score of 207.35 on the 1-meter, placing third, and a score of 188.90 on the 3-meter, both of which are personal bests.

On the men's side, Fairfield recorded the top three spots in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events and all six men’s scores were personal bests. Freshman Daniel Pires captured a first place finish on the 1-meter event and was the runner-up on the 3-meter event. Pires recorded a first place score of 287.15 on the 1-meter and a second place score of 275.55 on the 3-meter. Junior Evan Barr captured a first place finish on the 3-meter event with a score of 299.05 and was the runner-up on the 1-meter event with a score of 273.55. Placing third in both events was senior Brien Bates. Bates posted a 236.40 on the 1-meter and a 215.50 on the 3-meter.

The Fairfield swimming & diving team will return to action on January 25 when they travel to Newark, N.J. to compete against NJIT at 1pm.
