Incarnate Word and UMBC Men Tied, Liberty Women Lead CCSA's

The University of the Incarnate Word and UMBC men’s teams are tied for first place with 74 points after the first day of the 2014 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Swimming and Diving Championship on Wednesday at the University of Tennessee’s Allan Jones Aquatic Center. 
 
In the 800-yard freestyle relay final, the UMBC team of Mohamed Hussein, Robert Breen, Johan Rohtla and Gregor Spoerlein set a new conference and meet record with a time of 6:30.37.  Incarnate Word (Thiago Parravicini, Evandro Silva, Connor Hennessy and Mehdi El Hazzaz) finished second with a mark of 6:34.10, while Davidson (Luke Burton, Brandon Kegley, Grant Smith and Dylan Ludwick) touched third with a time of 6:34.58.
 
In the 200-yard medley relay, the Incarnate Word team of Daniel Torres, Thiago Parravicini, Andrii Nikishenko and Alex Brouwer broke the conference and meet records by touching in 1:27.52.  UMBC (Mohamed Hussein, Leo Endres, Lauri Kaei and Evan Carey) took second-place with a time of 128.99 and Gardner-Webb (Connor Box, Jordan Denmark, Matt Anderson and Cole Hickey) placed third with a mark of 129.49.
 
After the first night of competition, Incarnate Word and UMBC are tied for first-place with 74 points, while Davidson and Gardner-Webb are for third with 62 points.  NJIT and VMI are knotted up with 54 points, while Howard rounds out the men’s standings with 48 points.
 
The second day of the CCSA Championship will begin Thursday, Feb. 20 at 10:00am, starting with the 500-yard freestyle preliminaries.  The event finals for day two will start at 6:00pm.



Liberty University is in first place with 74 points after a record-breaking first day at the 2014 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Swimming and Diving Championship on Wednesday at the University of Tennessee’s Allan Jones Aquatic Center. 
 
Liberty’s 200-yard medley relay team of Kendall Huff, Emilie Kaufman, Jess Reinhardt and Meghan Babcock set a meet and Conference record with a time of 1:38.21.  Florida Gulf Coast (Kira Toussaint, Evita Leter, Emma Svensson and Christina Tanninen) finished in second-place with a time of 1:38.82, and Georgia Southern (Christina Moran, Kristen Bates, Megan Heller and Elaina Lanson) was third, posting a time of 1:42.77.
 
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the Davidson team of Elise Lankiewicz, Meredith Nakano, Liz Mace and Angie Healy broke the meet and Conference record touching in 7:16.58.  Liberty (Heather McCorkel, Morgan Noonan, Emily Duff and Bethany Wakeley) placed second with a time of 7:17.75, while Gardner-Webb (Giorgie Graves, Faith Kempf, Jenna Ballinger and Adel Kiss) took third-place with a time of 7:27.93.
 
Following the first night of competition, Liberty tops the standings with 74 points.  Georgia Southern sits in second with a score of 62 points and Incarnate Word is third with 58 points.  Campbell is fourth with 54 points, while North Florida is fifth with 50 points.  Davidson and Howard are tied for sixth place with 40 points and are followed by Florida Gulf Coast (34) and Gardner-Webb (32) in eighth and ninth respectively.  Radford is in tenth-place with 24 points and UNC Asheville has 22 points good for eleventh.  VMI and North Carolina A&T round out the women’s standings with 14 and 12 points.
