Raymond Cswerko (Torrington, Conn.) and Louis Geist (Arvada, Colo.) won events to highlight the performance of the Southern Connecticut State University men's swimming and diving team on day two of the Metropolitan Conference Championships. The three day meet that features 20 teams is held on the campus of Rutgers University.
Geist was victorious in the 400 IM with a time of 4:05.11.
Cswerko touched the wall first in the 100 fly, finishing in :49.25. Dan Elliot (Bellmore, N.Y.) was fifth (:51.06).
In the 100 yard backstroke, rookie Raymond Snyder (Waterbury, Conn.) placed sixth (:52.14).
The foursome of Cswerko, Elliot, Snyder and Jimmy Zummo (Waterbury, Conn.) finished fifth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:34.70.
Final day action begins tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m.
Anna Pleban (Seymour, Conn.) and Hannah Olson (Torrington, Conn.) finished one-two in the 200 yard freestyle to highlight the Southern Connecticut State University women's swimming and diving team's performance on day two of the Metropolitan Conference Championships. The three day meet that features 20 teams is held on the campus of Rutgers University.
Pleban's time was 1:54.22 while fellow co-captain Olson touched the wall in 1:55.29.
Olson also placed eighth in the 100 yard butterfly (:59.55).
Two Owls, Rachel Smolensky (Norwalk, Conn.) and Christine Katrenya (Oxford, Conn.), finished in the top 10 of the 100 yard backstroke. Smolensky was fifth (:58.75) and Katrenya seventh (1:00.11).
In the 100 yard breaststroke Elizabeth Hess (Iowa City, Iowa) touched the wall fourth with a time of 1:05.44.
Owls' relay teams achieved high placings at the meet. The 200 medley foursome of Smolensky, Katrenya, Hess and Pleban placed third with a time of 1:48.55. In the 800 free relay, Olson, Pleban, Amber Bjerke (Seymour, Conn.) and Christina Lavery (West Haven, Conn.) finished fifth (8:06.90).
