Anna Pleban (Seymour, Conn.) and Hannah Olson (Torrington, Conn.) placed in the top five of the 500 yard freestyle to highlight the Southern Connecticut State University swimming and diving team's performance on day one of the Metropolitan Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. The 20-team meet is hosted by Rutgers University.
Pleban touched the wall second in 5:08.84 while Olson placed fourth in 5:10.85.
The Owls' tri-captains were also part of the SCSU 200 yard freestyle relay team which finished fourth in 1:40.26. Katherine Krajcik (Stratford, Conn.) and Christina Lavery (West Haven, Conn.) rounded out the quartet.
In their only action on Friday, the Owls' men's 400 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams each finished fourth.
Brendan Murphy (Waterford, Conn.), Raymond Cswerko (Torrington, Conn.), Christian Berg (Groton, Conn.) and Dan Elliot (Bellmore, N.Y.) finished the 400 medley relay in 3:23.95 while Murphy, Elliot, Cswerko and Jared Thurston (Wallingford, Conn.) touched the wall in 1:23.84.
Day two of the meet begins tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.
