Washington College Sweeps Elizabethtown

The host Washington College men's swim team had little trouble with visiting Elizabethtown College tonight, rolling to a 130-64 non-conference victory by posting the top time in 10 of the meet's 11 races.  The Shoremen improved to 4-2 with the win, while the Blue Jays dropped to 2-9 with the loss.

Freshman Eric Burcin (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) won the 100 breaststroke for the Shoremen in a Washington College season-best time of 1:01.17. That time was also a personal best for Burcin, who ranks as the team's sixth-fastest swimmer ever in that event. Burcin also won the 50 freestyle in 22.39.

Sophomore Austin Yocum (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) also won a pair of individual events, capturing the 1000 freestyle in 10:37.82 and the 100 backstroke in 57.32.  Freshman Lucas Morgan (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional) took first in the 200 individual medley in 2:02.84 and second in the 100 backstroke in 57.65, while freshman DJ Bradshaw (Reisterstown, MD/Calvert Hall) won the 200 freestyle in 1:56.04 and placed second in the 100 freestyle in 51.53.

Sophomore Steven Bilinski (Swarthmore, PA/Strath Haven) added a first-place finish in the 100 freestyle in 51.50, while freshman Charles Logan(Durham, NC/Riverside) won the 100 butterfly in 56.63. Freshman Chris Kelly (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) placed second in both the 50 freestyle (23.39) and 100 butterfly (57.83). Sophomore Greg Lee (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) finished second in the 200 individual medley in 2:03.85, freshman Sean DiFatta (Baldwin, MD/John Carroll) was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:30.18, and junior Robert Mix (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) placed second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.61.

The Shoremen won the 200 medley relay to open the meet as Logan, Burcin, Lee, and Bilinski finished in 1:40.28. As an exhibition entrant, Washington recorded the fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay to end the meet as Lee, DiFatta, Kelly, and Yocum, finished in 1:35.18.

The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at Dickinson.



The Washington College women's swim team posted the top time in every event of a 137-57 non-conference victory over visiting Elizabethtown tonight inside Casey Swim Center.  The Shorewomen improved to 3-4 this season with the win, while the Blue Jays fell to 2-9 with the loss.

Junior Ellie Miskiel (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard) won three individual events for the Shorewomen in the victory, taking the 200 freestyle in 2:02.65, the 100 freestyle in 56.43, and the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.86. Junior Carly Ogren(Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) had a pair of individual wins, capturing first in the 50 freestyle in 26.21 and in the 500 freestyle in 5:33.51.

Sophomore Ashley Maurizi (Reamstown, PA/Cocalico) won the 1000 freestyle in a Washington College season-best time of 11:36.20 and was also second in the 100 freestyle in 59.87. Freshman Julianna Fritzinger (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion Area) won the 200 individual medley in 2:21.12 and was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.95, while sophomore Alicia Howard (Wilmington, DE/Charter School of Wilmington) won the 100 backstroke in 1:05.55 and was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:24.80. Senior Sarah Sykes (Haworth, NU/Northern Valley-Demarest) won the 100 butterfly in 1:06.88.

Sophomore Emily Goodchild (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) placed second in both the 1000 freestyle in 12:16.50 and the 100 butterfly in 1:07.41. SeniorAllison Kvien (Mechanicsville, MD/Chopticon) added a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle in 5:47.50.

The Shorewomen opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay as Howard, Fritzinger, Sykes, and Ogren finished in 2:01.92.  They finished the meet with the top time in the 200 freestyle relay - albeit as an exhibition - as freshman Kelsey McGrellis (Hockessin, DE/A.I. DuPont), Maurizi, sophomoreClair Belleveau (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow), and Sykes finished in 1:50.50.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at Dickinson.
