Westminster Splits With Rollins

The Westminster College men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in a nonconference dual meet at Division II Rollins College on Wednesday. The Titan men won 116-89, while the Titan women lost 111-94. The Titans won 11 events (7 men, 4 women).
 
The Titan men improved to 6-0, while the Titan women dropped to 5-1 on the year. Rollins men dropped to 1-5, while the Rollins women improved to 5-2.
 
Senior Alan Nedley (White, PA / Connellsville) led the men as he won two individual events and was also part of a winning relay. Nedley finished first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:50.22), the 100 yard butterfly (52.84), and was also part of the 200 yard medley relay team that placed first with a time of 1:40.43. Completing the quartet were sophomore Steven Brooks (Boardman, OH / Boardman), freshman Matthew Baurle (Jeannette, PA / Penn Trafford), and sophomore David Starr (Pittsburgh, PA / Plum).
 
Brooks and Baurle also won individual events; Brooks won the 100 yard backstroke (53.30) and Baurle won the 100 yard breaststroke (1:01.31). Brooks also teamed up with sophomore Jake Pletz (Venetia, PA / Peters Township), freshman Max Hague (Canton, OH / Glenoak), and senior Dan Gutmann (Cranberry Twp., PA / Seneca Valley) for a first-place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:28.98. Rounding out the first-place finishers was Pletz in the 200 yard IM (2:00.82).
 
For the women, the 200 yard medley relay team, consisting of sophomore Marina Rozick (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny), junior Erin Erdley (Meadville, PA / Cochranton), junior Amanda Marlow (Twinsburg, OH / Twinsburg), and junior Carrie Whisel (Boiling Springs, PA / Boiling Springs), finished first with a time of 1:56.17. Marlow and Whisel also won individual events; Marlow won the 200 yard IM (2:19.15) and Whisel won the 50 yard freestyle (25.73). Also earning an individual win was freshman Kelsey Reott (Butler, PA / Slippery Rock) who won the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.31.
 
Westminster will compete next at Carnegie Mellon next Saturday (Jan. 19) at 1 p.m.
