Washington U./St. Louis Men Down Wabash

The Washington University in St. Louis men’s swimming team won 10 out of 14 events contested as the Bears earned a 172-90 victory over Wabash College in a dual Wednesday evening at Millstone Pool.
 
Sophomore Luke Dobben led the way for the Bears, winning three individual events. He clocked a season-best time of 9:44.69 to win the 1,000 freestyle ahead of sophomore Zane Turpin who finished second in 10:07.96. Dobben followed that with a win in the 200 butterfly (1:57.13), before he and junior Alex Cox finished first and second in the 500 freestyle in times of 4:48.85 and 4:55.62, respectively.
 
Senior Brendan Morin also had a big day for Washington U., winning a pair of individual events and swimming on two winning relays. Morin led a first- through third-place sweep for the Bears in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.92. Freshman Reed Dalton (22.79) and sophomore Matt Nutter (23.23) followed in second and third. Morin also won the 100 butterfly in 52.40. He teamed up with freshman Kaisen Yao, junior Brian Carpenter and Dalton to win the first event of the night, the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:36.81. Yao, Morin, Nutter and sophomore Will Miller closed the night for the Bears, winning the 200-freestyle relay in 1:28.61.

Carpenter swept the two breaststroke events. He and sophomore Jake Ritchken finished first and second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.03 and 1:01.42, respectively. Carpenter also won the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:14.21, while junior Tyler Perez placed second in 2:16.24. Turpin (4:18.82) and Perez (4:22.19) swept the top-two spots in the 400 individual medley for the Bears’ 10th first-place finish of the meet.
 
The Washington University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams return to action when the Bears host the WU Invitational Friday-Saturday, Jan. 11-12.
