Bentley Sweeps Gordon

Sophomore Luke Mason (Lowell/Lowell HS) won a pair of freestyle events and anchored the Falcons’ winning 200 yard medley relay team as Bentley University downed Gordon College, 134-76, in men’s college swimming at the Bennett Center pool Wednesday night.

Eight different Falcons won individual events with Mason the only double-winner. He recorded a time of 24.20 seconds in the 50 and came back with a 5:25.68 in the 500. In the 200 medley, he partnered with freshman Tim Connolly (Dorchester/Boston Latin Acad.) and seniors Tyler Champagne (Orange, Conn./Amity Reg. HS) and Mike Simoneau (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South HS) for a time of 1:49.82.

Each of those three also posted a first in an individual event. Champagne recorded a 53.38 in the 100 free, Simoneau took the 50 fly in 26.52, and Connolly had a meet-best time of 59.98 in the 100 individual medley.

Bentley’s other individual winners were freshman Owen Karl (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton HS) in the 200 free (1:55.39), classmate Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Senior HS) in the 50 back, sophomore Andrew Langin (Cumberland, R.I./Mt. St. Charles Acad.) in the 100 fly (1:00.01) and sophomore Josh Witty (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos HS) in the 100 back (58.01).

Bentley, 2-0, will travel across town to take on Brandeis University Sunday at 1 pm.





Senior All-America Jessica Hodsdon (Brewer, Maine/Brewer HS) won three individual events and participated on a winning relay as Bentley University improved to 2-0 with a 119-86 win over Gordon College in women’s swimming at the Bennett Center pool Wednesday evening.

Hodsdon posted meet-best times in the 100 yard freestyle (58.64), 100 breaststroke (1:11.43) and the 100 individual medley (1:05.44). She also swam the second leg as the Falcons opened the meet with a winning time of 1:57.49 in the 200 medley relay.

Senior Monika Drogosz (Unionville, Conn./Farmington HS) and sophomore Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS), also part of that relay, were double-winners for the Falcons. Edwards was first to the wall in the 200 freestyle (2:01.52) and the 100 butterfly (1:07.78) while Drogosz captured the 50 backstroke (29.84) and the 100 back (1:04.39). In addition, Edwards swam the opening leg as Bentley closed the meet with a win in the 200 free relay (1:51.75).

Other individual first-place finishes for the Falcons were recorded by senior Lauren Pflanz (Burlington/ Burlington HS) in the 50 free (26.37), freshman Michelle Giordano (Alfred, Maine/Cheverus HS) in the 500 free (6:06.01) and freshman Melissa Clauss (Oakland, N.J./Bergen County Academies) in the 50 fly (29.76).

Bentley’s next action is Sunday afternoon at Brandeis University.
