MAAC - Day 2

The Niagara swimming & diving team concluded day two at the 2012 MAAC Championships with the men's team finishing in eighth place of nine teams with 184 points, while the women's team finished in eighth place of 10 teams with 166 points.

On the men's side, after claiming the one-meter diving event during the first day of competition, senior diver Ian O'Rourke grabbed a second place finish in the three-meter dive with a final score of 322.55.

Freshman Corban Bothell had an excellent showing in the 1000 yard freestyle, clocking in at 9:40.18 for a sixth place finish. His time broke the NU record previously held by Mike Smiechowski in 2009. Fellow freshman Jason Ellis earned ninth place in the 100 yard backstroke (54.11).

The Purple Eagles also got points from junior Brian Sawma and sophomore Alex Siuda, as Sawma grabbed tenth in the 100 yard butterfly (51.81) and Siuda placed 13th 400 yard IM (4:16.54)

On the women's side, sophomore Ashley Harrington swam the 400 yard IM in 4:36.25 which was good enough for seventh place while junior Lindsey Jackson completed the event in 4:36.88 for ninth place.

Junior Aubrey Kettrick placed eighth in the 200 yard freestyle with her time of 1:57.62. The women also had a strong showing from sophomore Erica Crane who swam the 100 yard breaststroke 1:09.55 for 14th place while teammate junior Katie Metcalf placed 16th in the 100 yard backstroke (102.61).

The MAAC Championships wrap up tomorrow starting at 9 a.m.
