Bentley Sweeps Gordon

Sophomore Jessica Hodsdon (Brewer, Maine/Brewer HS) broke the school record in the 100 yard individual medley and had the best time of the meet in another event as Bentley University topped Gordon College in women’s college swimming, 144-83, Wednesday night at the Gordon Pool.
               
Bentley had the best performance in 14 of 15 events while recording its second win in as many tries this season.
               
Hodsdon, who set three individual Bentley marks as a freshman, swam the 100 IM in 1:02.23, improving on the school record Angela Groccia had owned since 2002 by 0.76 seconds. She also had the best time in the 100 butterfly (1:02.39) and helped Bentley capture the 200 free relay, teaming with senior Anne Kaduboski (Dedham/Dedham HS) and freshmen Kellen Power (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian HS) and Jae Shin (Lancaster/Nashoba Reg. HS) for a time of 1:42.85.
               
Kaduboski touched first in the 50 backstroke (28.88) and the 100 back (1:01.28), and junior Susie Boretti (Westford/Westford Academy) had winning efforts in the 200 freestyle (2:05.11) and the 500 free (5:35.90).
               
Bentley’s other individual winners were Shin (27.80 in the 50 butterfly), Power (25.92 in the 100 free), freshman Erin Campbell (Marshfield/Marshfield HS) in the 50 breaststroke (32.88) and freshman Heather Exley (Oceanside, Calif./Vista HS) in the 100 breast (1:13.24).
               
Bentley’s next meet is at home against UMass-Dartmouth Nov. 20.



Freshman Steve Sylvia (Westerly, R.I./Westerly HS) touched first in three events to lead Bentley University to a 122-70 win over Gordon College in men’s college swimming Wednesday night at the Gordon Pool.
               
Sylvia recorded the meet’s best times in the 50 yard freestyle (22.91 seconds), the 100 free (50.90) and the 100 individual medley (1:00.13).
               
Sylvia wasn’t the only freshman to have a strong meet for the Falcons. Phillip Chan (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier HS) participated in two winning relays and had the best performance in the 50 breaststroke (28.98) and the 100 breast (1:05.24).
               
Sophomore George Go (Manila, Philippines) captured both the 50 and 100 backstroke events, with times of 26.93 and 58.25, respectively.
               
Other winners of individual events for the 2-0 Falcons were senior Chris Horan (Hanover/ Boston College HS) in the 200 free (1:54.38), sophomore Keron Brown (Elmsford, N.Y./Iona Prep) in the 100 butterfly (58.25), sophomore Tyler Champagne (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS) in the 500 free (5:09.27) and sophomore Mike Culkin (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) in the 50 fly (26.66).
               
Champagne and Culkin were also part of both winning relays for the Falcons, as was senior Matt Cesaro (Avon, Conn./Avon HS).
               
Bentley has nine days off before hosting UMass-Dartmouth at 1 pm Nov. 20.
