Junior year
• Holds the school record in the 200 individual medley and is ranked second in the 200 freestyle, fourth in the 400 individual medley and ninth in the 500 freestyle and the 200 butterfly in Georgia history entering the season.
Sophomore year
• Placed 16th in the 400 individual medley and swam on the ninth-place 800 freestyle relay at the NCAA Championships. • Competed in the NCAAs in the 200 butterfly and the 200 individual medley, • Named Second-Team All-Southeastern Conference after finishing as the league runner-up in the 400 individual medley. • Came in 12th in the 200 individual medley and 14th in the 200 butterfly at the SECs. • Anchored the 800 freestyle relay team that set the school record. • Chosen as an Academic All-American by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.
Freshman year
• Finished eighth in the 400 individual medley and 14th in the 200 individual medley at the NCAAs. • Was on the 800 freestyle relay that came in ninth at the NCAAs. • Named the SEC Freshman of the Year and a member of the Freshman All-SEC Team following the SECs. • Named Second-Team All-SEC after finishing as the runner-up in the 400 individual medley at the SECs. • Finished 11th in the 200 butterfly and 13th in the 200 individual medley at the SECs. • Was on the 800 freestyle relay that came in seventh at the SECs. • Was named SEC Freshman of the Week after the Auburn meet. • Named to Fall Semester Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Pre college
High School • Graduated from Benedictine Military. • Coached by his father, Rick Benner, and competed for the Savannah Swim Team. • Ranked top 50 in the nation in his age group in the 200-meter freestyle and the 200-meter individual medley. • Was the 2007 Georgia high school state champion in the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle.
