Prior to Texas

Member of the Raleigh Swimming Association under the direction of head coach Ed Lower. Competed at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Long Beach, Calif., in the 100- (22nd - 51.29) and 200-meter freestyles (24th - 1:51.70) as well as the 200-meter backstroke (14th - 2:03.34) Captured first place in six events to help propel Raleigh Swimming Association to the overall team title at the 2004 NCSA Junior Nationals. Placed first in the 50- (20.65), 100-(44.36) and 200-yard freestyle (1:36.37), the 100- (49.61) and 200-yard backstroke (1:46.06) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:49.80). Also added a runner-up finish in 50-yard backstroke (23.50) Competed at the 2003 Senior Nationals in the 100- (13th - 51.15) and 200-meter freestyles (9th - 1:51.38), the 100- (10th - 57.31) and 200-meter backstrokes (13th - 2:04.45) and the 200-meter individual medley (28th - 2:07.31). At the 2002 Senior Nationals, competed in the 100- (48th - 59.58) and 200-meter backstrokes (14th- 2:04.36) and the 200-meter freestyle (39th - 1:53.95)
