Franklin & Marshall Split with Dickinson

Franklin & Marshall Men

 Franklin & Marshall returned to the pool for its second meet in 18 hours, falling 126-79 to Dickinson on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) men's swimming action. With the loss the Diplomats fell to 2-4, 1-3 CC while the Red Devils improved to 6-1, 3-0 CC with the win.

Daniel Sanders led F&M with a pair of wins in the sprint freestyle events. His first victory came in the 50-yard freestyle, posting a time of 22.07 to win by .51 of a second. He followed that performance by winning the 100-yard freestyle in 48.39, followed closely by teammate Keith Kamons in third with a time of 50.73.

Several Diplomats posted second-place finishes on the day, beginning with Patrick Greaney in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:14.48), where he was followed by Reeves Connolly in third (10:39.06). Greaney also posted a time of 4:57.27 in the 500-yard freestyle to add a third-place finish to his day.

F&M took the second- and third-place positions in both the 200-yard IM and the 200-yard butterfly as well. In the IM, Eric Lang took second after finishing in 1:59.84, while Ryan Caffrey finished third with a time of 2:02.85. In the butterfly, David Burton took second with a time of 2:04.44 as Cody Kalinowski claimed third at 2:04.53.

Richard Perry and Timothy Gould also finished as runners-up, with Perry taking second in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:49.92. Gould's silver came in the 200-yard backstroke, recording a time of 2:00.28.

The Diplomats return to the pool on Friday for a meet originally scheduled for Jan. 23. That event is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.


Franklin & Marshall Women

Franklin & Marshall won six out of nine individual events including two sweeps en route to a 125-80 victory over Dickinson on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) women's swimming action. The Diplomats improved to 5-1-1, 4-0 CC with the victory while the Red Devils fell to 4-4, 2-2 with the loss.

Becca Meyers had a big day, winning three individual events. The first victory came in the 1000-yard freestyle, posting a time of 10:23.18. She claimed another freestyle event later in the day, winning the 500-yard race in 5:06.15, just ahead of Grace Pereles in third at 5:18.76. The junior also added a victory in the 200-yard butterfly, recording a time of 2:17.44 to lead an F&M sweep as Kellen McDonald took second at 2:17.48 and Diane Wagner finished third at 2:23.70.

The Diplomats recorded another sweep in the 200-yard IM, led by Melissa Mullin in first with a time of 2:15.92. She was followed by Anna Hess (2:18.02) in second and McDonald (2:18.21) in third.

Mullin reached multiple individual victories for the second time in two days, claiming a second victory in the 200-yard breaststroke by recording a time of 2:31.39.

Also earning individual victory for the second day in a row was Jillian Albus, winner of the 50-yard freestyle in 25.76. She was joined on the podium by Alyson Campbell, whose time of 26.60 was good for third. Albus rounded out her day by recording a time of 55.89 to take third in the 100-yard freestyle.

Pereles and Hess each added a second runner-up finish for Diplomats. Pereles took second in the 200-yard freestyle by clocking a time of 2:00.01, while Hess finished second in the 200-yard backstroke after posting a time of 2:13.35. Courtney Collins contributed a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.11) as well.

F&M returns to the pool on Friday when Ursinus comes to Lancaster for a 6:00 p.m. meet.
