Frostburg State Sweeps Bethany, Penn State-Altoona

The Bobcat women secured a 58-51 win over Bethany while also defeating Penn State Altoona, 59-35. The men's team pulled out a close 49-45 victory over Penn State Altoona but dropped a 54-41 decision to Bethany.

The Bobcat men and women combined to win 12 total events, with the women earning seven first place finishes and the men with five.

The women kicked off the night with a first place victory in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of freshman Emily Turner, junior Sydney Fazenbaker, senior Chrissy Alessandrini and sophomore Macey Nitchie touched in at 2:04.57, 12 seconds ahead of their opponents.

Nitchie went on to win both the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.59) and the 50-yard freestyle (26.05). In the long distance free events, Turner placed second in the 1000-yard free in 12:02.82 and Fazenbaker touched in second in the 500-yard free (6:03.90).

Freshman Maddie Weinberger swept all of her individual events, kicking the night off with a win in the 100-yard free (59.60). She also touched the wall 13 seconds ahead of her competition to take first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.17).

Weinberger and teammate Lauren Pettyjohn-Robin took a 1-2 finish in the 400-yard IM, respectively.  Weinberger finished the race in 5:01.31 while Pettyjohn-Robin finished behind her in 6:19.18.

On the men's side sophomore Christian March posted three individual wins for the Bobcats. He touched first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.66), the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.08) and the 400-yard IM (4:39.97), finishing the race almost 20 seconds ahead of the competition.

Sophomore Deionn Yarberough took the victory in the 100-yard backstroke in 58.24.

Sophomores Daniel Ryczek and Marquell Proctor took first and second in the 100-yard freestyle respectively. Ryczek touched the wall in 53.79 followed closely by Proctor in 54.53. Ryczek went on the place second in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:06.05).

The Bobcats will return home to host Marymount (Va.) Saturday, January 31 at 1:00 pm. The meet will cap off the Bobcats home schedule.
