Cornell Sweeps Colgate

Cornell men's swimming and diving won all 16 contested events and cruised to a 187-93 win over Colgate on Saturday afternoon at Teagle Pool, extending its win streak over non-conference opponents to 13  meets and improving to 5-3 on the year.  The Cornell women similarly won 177-104.

The Big Red, which has now won 30 consecutive dual meets against the Raiders dating back to the 1980-81 season, were never challenged, as Cornell opened up with the top three teams in the 400 medley relay and never let up off the gas.

Said Colgate Head Coach Andy Waeger, “This was a meet that we knew was going to be an uphill battle.  We used this meet as an opportunity to get some people a chance to swim events that they don’t get to swim that often.

“We wanted to come in and get one last solid swim in before we begin preparations for the Patriot League Championships. Now we will shift our focus getting ready for the Patriot League Championships. Dual meet season is over and championship season is upon us. We’re looking forward to racing fast last month in Annapolis
Brandon Sweezer kicked off the individual racing with a win in the 1000 free, shaving more than eight seconds off his season-best time. Vincent Declercq led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 free in 1:45.21. Victor Luo won the 100 back by .05 over teammate Carl St. John (53.42-53.47) and became the only double event winner on the day with his victory in the 100 IM (53.78).

The top two 400 medley relay teams came from Cornell, as the B team of Isabel Obregon, Currie Murch Elliot, Jennifer Zhang and Ellie Belilos (3:55.55) held off a hard-charging team os Tessa Wilson, Helen Hsu, Jenna Immormino and Cari Stankaitis (3:57.65) by a little more than two seconds. That depth proved crucial in the team's eighth straight dual meet win over non-conference foes.

Freshman Hannah Bollinger led a 1-2-3 finish in the 1000 free in 10:29.72, then came back to easily win the 200 back (2:07.79).
