Hollins Beats Ferrum

After suffering their first losses of the season over the weekend, the Hollins swim team looked to get back on track with a trip to Ferrum for a dual meet on Wednesday night.  Hollins defeated the Panthers, 113-64, back in early November.  After winning seven of the 11 events, Hollins picked up their second win over the Panthers, 108-74.

The visitors got the meet off to a good start when the team of Debra Henke (Glen Allen, VA), Lucy Manjikian (Chesapeake, VA), Hayley Caulfeild-James (Willow Street, PA), and Claire Webber (Blauvelt, NY) picked up a nine second victory in the 400 Medley Relay.  Distance specialist Dani Raymond (Fredericksburg, VA) won both the 1000 Freestyle before coming back later in the meet to earn another first place finish in the 500 Freestyle.

Webber added two more individual wins by taking the 100 Freestyle and the 100 Breaststroke by a combined 40 seconds.  Maya Schattgen(Fredericksburg, VA) added a fifth individual win by just out-touching her opponent from Ferrum in the 100 Backstroke.  Schattgen touched the wall a mere .34 seconds ahead of KP Patrick to secure the first place points.  Henke, Caulfeild-James, Manjikian, and Schattgen each added second place points as Hollins ran it's overall record to 5-2 on the season.

Hollins will travel to North Carolina next Friday night to face Guilford and Greensboro in a tri-meet.  The matchup with the Quakers and Pride is a rematch from a tri-meet that Hollins won at home back in late October.
