Georgia Southern Tops UNC-Asheville

Georgia Southern opened 2016 with a split squad win over UNC-Asheville in the swimming lanes and a loss to Clemson on the diving boards. The Eagles are back home on Friday evening against SCAD and Gardner-Webb. The meet starts at 6 p.m. as the Eagles honor their seniors in the final home meet of the year.

Georgia Southern tallied 11 event wins from 14 total events to take the 146-108 victory over the UNC Asheville Bulldogs.

Head Coach Nate Kellogg
"Coming off a heavy training cycle, I thought we had some solid performances overall today. There were some things we could have done better, which we will continue to work on, but I'm proud of how we stepped up and raced today."

Diving Coach David Giambra
“There were some really good dives done today and some that we need to work on going into the championship season. Overall it was an ok first meet after a long training period.”

Georgia Southern will be back home on Friday, Jan. 15, as SCAD and Gardner-Webb come to Statesboro for the first of two meets in back-to-back days. The annual GATA Game and Senior Day will start at 6 p.m. inside the Georgia Southern RAC Aquatics Center. One day later the same three teams square-off in Savannah at 1 p.m.

The 2015-16 Georgia Southern Swimming & Diving season culminates at the CCSA Championships on Feb. 17-20 in Athens, Ga.
