Widener Men, Messiah Women Lead Middle Atlantic Conference Meet

The second day of the 2016 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Men’s and Women’s Swimming Championships were completed on Friday at the Graham Aquatic Center.

Through six events, Messiah remains atop the women’s standings with 285 points. The Falcons have claimed gold in five of the first six events, including all three relays. Widener jumped into second place with 212 points. Misericordia fell one spot to third with 146 points. Arcadia (135 points) and Hood (104 points) round out the current top-five teams.

Widener took over sole possession of first-place in the men’s standings through six events. The Pride now have 175 points. Messiah is in second with 155 points. Albright is third with 149 points with Arcadia (145 points) and Misericordia (142 points) right behind to round out the current top-five teams.

400-YARD MEDLEY RELAY
Women
Messiah’s Joelle Williamson, Emily Reale, Cassie Cotton and Katie Wingert won gold with a time of 3:57.91. It is the Falcons’ first gold in the women’s 400-yard medley relay at the MAC Championships in a school-record time. Misericordia took second in a time of 4:01.24, and Widener claimed third with a time of 4:01.84.
 
Men
Misericordia’s Joe Grzech, Thomas Scott, Nick Lucca and Matt Cullen claimed gold with a time of 3:29.13. Lycoming claimed second with a time of 3:31.22, and Widener took third with a time of 3:31.31.
 
500-YARD FREESTYLE
Women
Messiah’s Emily Reale won gold by 10 full seconds over teammate Britta Health, who took silver. Reale won the event in a time of 5:06.36. Health finished in second in a time of 5:16.37. Widener’s Liz O’Sullivan took third in a time of 5:17.99.
 
Men
Arcadia’s Grant Fisher won gold with a time of 4:43.71. Hood’s Cameron Rogers took second with a time of 4:44.48, and Albright’s Brendan Mackey-Wood took third with a time of 4:48.44.
 
200-YARD INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY (IM)
Women
Messiah Katie Wingert repeated as the women’s 200-yard IM champion with a time of 2:10.36. Wingert won the event with a time of 2:11.27 at the 2015 conference championship. Misericordia’s Dani Blass took second in a time of 2:12.06, and Widener’s Erin Neugebauer took third in a time of 2:14.30.
 
Men
Albright’s Ken Richardson wins gold with a time of 1:54.72. Richardson beat both the 2015 and 2014 champions. Misericordia’s Thomas Scott, who won the event in 2014, took second in a time of 1:55.14. Lebanon Valley’s Ian Lloyd took third in a time of 1:56.47. The 2015 champion, Timothy Graham of Arcadia, took fourth in a time of 1:58.26.
 
50-YARD FREESTYLE
Women
Lebanon Valley’s Erica Wise wins gold with a time of 24.14 seconds. Messiah’s Katie Wingert and Cassie Cotton tied for second-place touching the wall at the same time (24.33 seconds). Winger won the event in 2015.
 
Men
Widener’s Ian Gaynor won the 50-yard freestyle for a second-straight year. This year with a time of 20.81 seconds. Gaynor swam an NCAA B cut time of 20.61 seconds in prelims, his top time heading into championships was 20.41 seconds. Albright’s Matthew Runtas took second in a time of 21.36 seconds, and Misericordia’s Matt Cullen took third in a time of 21.44 seconds.
