Lindenwood-Belleville Men Out to Early Mid-South Lead

Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) won six of the seven events on Friday during the second day of the Mid-South Conference Men's Swimming Championship at the Kingsport Aquatics Center.

The Lynx extended their stranglehold on the team standing, posting 268 team points today. Lindenwood-Belleville leads the championships with one day remaining with 434 points.

Cumberlands (Ky.) is second with 322.5 points and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) is third with 262.5 points. Bethel (Tenn.) sits in fourth with 106 points while Campbellsville (Ky.) and Life (Ga.) is fifth and sixth with 89 and 22 points respectively.

On Friday, MSC records fell in each of the two relay events and the five individual events.

Lindenwood-Belleville's Luke Shaffer, Timo Billmann, Justin Stafford and Lucas Dengler-Harles captured the first of two Lynx relay wins on Friday. The quartet posted a record-breaking time of one minute and 24.91 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Lindenwood-Belleville's Bart Sommeling captured his first individual title of the championships with a win in the 400 IM. He touched the wall in 4:07.66. Sommeling's teammate Sebastian Wegner added his first individual win with a time of 50.36 seconds in the 100 butterfly.

Dengler-Harles -- who won the 500 free on Thursday -- collected the 200 free title today with a time of 1:40.18.

Lindsey Wilson's Jonas Muller broke the Lindenwood-Belleville string of wins in the 100 breaststroke. He completed the 100 yards with a meet-record 58.21 seconds.

Daniel Buijs provided Lindenwood-Belleville with its sixth individual title of the championships in the 100 backstroke. He touched the wall at 50.13 seconds.

Buijs, Wegner, Dengler-Harles and Laban Jamar closed out Friday with a win in the 400 medley relay. The quartet concluded the race in 3:24.03.

The championship concludes on Saturday with preliminaries in the morning and the finals in the evening in the 100 and 1,650 free, 200 backstroke, 200 butterfly, 200 breaststroke and 400 free relay.
