Westminster's Klamut to Step Down After More Than 30 Years

Westminster College has announced that men's and women's swimming & diving Head Coach Rob Klamut will step down following the completion of the 2015-16 season after over 30 years at the helm. After the season, Klamut will work full-time as the Major Gifts Officer in Westminster's Institutional Advancement department.

"It is an honor to be selected as Major Gifts Officer, and I look forward to the opportunities and challenges this new career path will bring," Klamut said. "I will certainly miss coaching, and I am appreciative that the administration has allowed me to continue at the helm of the Titan swimming and diving program as I begin to work in Institutional Advancement during this year of transition."

Klamut, who has won over 400 dual meets and 10 combined Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) championships during his time with the Titans, has earned either PAC Men's or Women's Swimming Coach of the Year honors ten times since the Titans joined the league in 2003. He has coached three national champions, 110 individuals earning All-America or All-America honorable mention honors, 142 conference champions and several scholar-athletes and all-academic team members. Overall under Klamut's watch, Westminster has won nine men's team conference championships (Penn-Ohio 1993-94, GLIAC 1999, PAC 2003, 2005-07, 2013, 2015) and five women's team conference titles (Penn-Ohio 1992, PAC 2003-04, 2006-07).

"Rob Klamut built the Westminster swimming & diving program into a perennial power," said Westminster Athletic Director Jim Dafler. "He has had success with both the men's and women's teams as evidenced by the numerous conference championships and the number of individuals who have competed at the national level.  During his tenure, Rob was able to have success at whatever level of competition his teams encountered - NAIA, NCAA Division II, and NCAA Division III.  He will leave a remarkable coaching legacy at the end of this season. It is amazing to think of the number of lives of Westminster student-athletes and students in general that he has impacted as a coach and faculty member on this campus.  Rob has made and will continue to make an impact on Westminster College.  It has been my privilege to have worked with him, to have him as a friend, and I wish him well in this next chapter of his professional career."

"I will devote all of my energies into preparing the teams for another Championship season, as I have for the past thirty years, and look forward to another highly successful season," Klamut said.
