Lindsey Wilson Sweeps Runner-Up Honors at Fall Frenzy

Men

The Lindsey Wilson men's swimming team concluded the final day of the LWC Fall Frenzy Invitational on Saturday with a second-place overall finish at the Holloway Health and Wellness Center.

The Blue Raiders finished only behind Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) in the team points competition.

Throughout the day, a total of eight national standards were achieved by the Lindsey Wilson swimmers, including six "A" cuts and a pair of "B" cuts.

Right out of the gate the Blue Raiders picked up a pair of "A" standards in the 200-yard medley relay.

The quartet of Clemens Patzold, Jonas Muller, Jose Prado de Lima and Zachary Patzer won the race with a time of 1:40.48, while Iker Larzabal, Taylor Thompson, Travis Durocher and Mark Richard finished fourth, but their time of 1:46.59 was also good enough for the "A" mark.

Larzabal, Patzer, Patzold and Prado de Lima obtained an "A" cut in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:39.02, finishing third in the event.

Prado de Lima, Patzer, Larzabal and Patzold made it a perfect 3-for-3 day in "A" relays as the foursome achieved the national mark in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:19.75.

Four more national standards fell in individual events during the day, two each by Muller and Patzold.

Muller won both the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke events, earning a "B" cut in the 100 and "A" cut in the 200. Patzold won the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events, accomplishing his "A" in the 100 and "B" in the 200. His time in the 100-backstroke also set a new school record for the event.

Patzold nearly added a third individual standard, but finished less than a second off a "B" cut in the 100-yard butterfly where he finished third with a time of 55.40.

Patzer almost achieved a "B" cut of his own in the 100-yard freestyle but finished just .13 seconds off the mark, despite finishing the race in second place.

Larzabal and Patzer would go on to add a one-two finish in the 200-yard freestyle event.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action on Oct. 17 as they head to West Virginia Tech for the first dual meet of the season.

Women

The Lindsey Wilson women's swimming team concluded the final day of the season-opening LWC Fall Frenzy Invitational on Saturday by achieving six national standards at the Holloway Health and Wellness Center.

The six national cuts go with the six standards accomplished on Friday evening during the first day of competition to give the Blue Raiders 12 total for the weekend.

A pair of Lindsey Wilson relay teams achieved an "A" standard in the 200-yard medley relay.

Bailey Seitz, Caitlin Freeny, Dana Kaftan and Emily Wood won the race with a time of 2:01.27, while the team of Hailee Scheffer, Courtney Fleeger, Susan Herrington and Vanessa Durocher finished in fifth place with a time of 2:08.06, both squads collecting the "A" mark.

Kaftan, Fleeger, Wood and Seitz added another "A" cut in the 400-yard freestyle relay after finishing with a time of 4:02.03, while Fleeger, Kaftan, Freeny and Wood teamed up to garner an "A" mark in the 800-yard free relay with a time of 8:52.13 in second place.

The three "A" relays on Saturday gives the Blue Raiders a perfect 5-for-5 weekend in accomplishing "A" standards in relays at the invitational.

In the individual events, Wood achieved an "A" cut in the 1,650-yard freestyle after finishing in second place with a time of 18:57.11.
