Marist Adds Two

The Marist swimming and diving programs added one female and male swimmer to its rosters in preparation for the 2015-16 season. Transfers Daniela Gomez and Robert McDowell will join the Red Foxes.

Daniela Gomez – Fly/Free - Valparaiso/Grandview Prep/Mexican Olympic Sports Center - Mexico City, Mexico

Gomez set five individual and two relay records as a freshman at Valparaiso during the 2014-15 season. At the Horizon League Championships she finished 11th in the 100-yard butterfly and 1,000-yard freestyle. She has been a national age group finalist at the high school level in six events and a national finalist at three freestyle distances. Gomez competed in the state finals in Florida for two years in high school before she was named a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and earned a spot on the Palm Beach County First Team in 2012.

Robert McDowell - Back, IM - Keene State/Wilton High School/Wilton Y Wahoos - Wilton, Connecticut

A Division III Academic All-American Honorable mention, McDowell swam for Keene State his freshman year. He set program records for the Owls in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke and was on the 400-yard medley relay team. McDowell was on the Honor Roll for all four years at Wilton High School, where he was also a member of the state champion 400-yard freestyle relay team that broke the school record. He finished 15thin the 200-yard backstroke at winter and summer YMCA Nationals with his club squad.

With a pair of transfers and 14 freshmen, 16 of the 23 student-athletes on the men’s side are newcomers. The women’s team has added five newcomers, one transfer and four freshmen, for the upcoming season. The total of 21 new faces on the Marist swimming and diving teams is the most in program history. 

The Red Foxes will hold their first preseason practice Sept. 4 and host the annual Red & White Challenge at 11 a.m. Oct. 10.
