Centre's Maggard Returns as Assistant

Centre College is pleased to announce the addition of 2012 Centre graduate Colleen Maggard to the athletics staff as the new Centre swimming and diving assistant coach.

"I am so excited to return to the Centre community, and greatly look forward to spending the year with the best students and athletes around," said Maggard. "I can't wait to get the season started with a winning combination of hard work, teamwork, and fun."

A native of Paris, Ky., Maggard is one of the most decorated female swimmers in program history for the Colonels. She was a four-time Honorable Mention All-American during her four years at Centre, twice in 2011, in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke, and twice more as a part of the 2009 200-yard medley relay and 2012 800-yard freestyle relay squads. Maggard owns school records in both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke, and at the time of her graduation, she was the highest scoring swimmer in Centre history with 1,743 points.

Maggard has served as head swim coach for The Club at Spindletop Hall since 2014 and also served a stint as head swim coach at Danville Country Club in 2012. A double major in English and Spanish at Centre, Maggard also taught Spanish at Lexington Catholic High School while also serving as assistant swim coach from 2013-14.

"I am thrilled to have Colleen back on campus and as a part of the team," said Centre head swimming and diving coach Dean Brownley, who coached Maggard from 2009-2012. "She brings a great deal of experience both from a swimming and a coaching standpoint. Being a four-time All-American and current record holder in the backstroke events, she will have credibility with the team as soon as we have our first team meeting."

The Centre swimming and diving teams will begin the 2015-16 season on Oct. 10 as they travel to Lexington, Va. to compete against Washington & Lee.
