Washington U./St. Louis Sweeps DePauw

Two individuals for the Washington University in St. Louis men's swimming & diving teams posted B-cut times to highlight and dual sweep for the Bears' men's and women's teams against DePauw University Saturday afternoon.

The WashU women scored 188 points to defeat DePauw by 85 points in their dual, while the WashU men won by 69 points after accumulating 179 in the meet.

Junior Michael Lagieski and freshman Brandon Lum highlighted a strong day for the Bears by each clocking a B-cut time. Lagieski won the men's 100 breaststroke with a season-best and B-cut time of 57.04, while Lum led a first- through fourth-place sweep for the Bears in the 200 butterfly with a B-cut time of 1:53.71. 

Lagieski (1:58.79) also edged freshman Jordan Wheeler (1:58.84) for the fastest time in the 200 IM. They both joined senior Reed Dalton and junior Justin Morrell to win the meet's opening event, the 200-medley relay, in 1:33.91.

Senior Sophie Gan was part of three first-place finishes to lead the WashU women. She swam season-best times to win both the 100 breaststroke (1:08.98) and the 200 breaststroke (2:27.96). Gan also teamed with senior Katie Anderson and juniors Lauren Carlos and MariMac Collins to win the 200-medley relay in a season-best 1:49.57. Anderson added a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a season-best 59.41.

Morrell and junior Andrew Ellison each won a pair of individual events for the men. Morrell swam season-bests to place first in the 200 free (1:44.72) and the 100 free (46.50). Ellison took first in the 1,000 free (9:56.29) and led a first- through fourth-place sweep for the Bears in the 500 free (4:45.56). Dalton won the 100 butterfly in 49.83, and joined Morrell, sophomore Ross Brown and freshman Andrew Pek to swim the fastest time in the 400-free relay (3:10.89).

Junior Emily Ramos and sophomore Laura Barber finished first and second in both women's diving events. Ramos won the one-meter diving with a score of 219.30, while Barber posted a season-best score of 215.00 to finish second. Both Ramos (227.60) and Barber (227.50) had season-bests in the three-meter diving to finish first and second, respectively.

Senior Amanda Stadermann added a pair of first-place swims, winning the 100 (59.69) and 200 butterfly (2:10.48) events. Sophomore Nicole Zanolli won the 200 backstroke (2:09.32) and also swam the fastest time in the 200 IM with a season-best 2:13.04.

Three other individuals won events for the WashU women. Senior Kristalyn McAfee swam a season-best time of 55.11 to lead the Bears to the top-four spots in the 100 free. Sophomore Alissa Ling won the 1,000 free with a season-best 10:48.95, and freshman Lauren Sapp won the 50 free in 25.22. Junior Claire Savage, Collins, Ling and Sapp also had the fastest time in the 400-free relay (3:39.06).

Senior RJ Petrella and junior Reese Frerichs each added first-place finishes for the WashU men. Petrella won the 200 backstroke in 1:58.81, and Frerichs was first in the 200 breaststroke in 2:10.74.

The WashU men's and women's swimming & diving teams return to action Saturday, Nov. 7, with a dual meet at the University of Chicago, which is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
